    Fuel filler tube

    WOW...just...WOW!!!

I picked up my car from the shop after having the new intake manifold and heads reinstalled yesterday. The car had been sitting in my garage for 6 months and had less than 1/4 tank of fuel. I was hoping it hadn't sat too long and gone bad and fortunately, that wasn't the case, but...I had to go get some gas and I decided to put a full tank of 93 octane in. Finished pumping and noticed I had a leak but I couldn't tell whether it was coming from the tank or the fuel filler tube. The shop found that it was indeed the tube...and this is where my shock and amazement comes into play. That part for a 99-04 Mustang costs approximately $150!!! I've seen some expensive parts with no idea why they cost so much, but this one really surprised me. It was all the more surprising because I have had older cars that never had this problem. Anyone have similar issues with their SN95/SN95-NE models?

Are you sure the tube is bad and not just the tank grommet? The tank grommet will usually go out well before you have a filler tube go bad. And the grommet only costs abot $10

Yeah, the grommet was bad, but evidently the tube was damaged a while back when my son owned the car and was involved in an accident. It's just one of those parts you can't see and hardly pay attention to...until you're standing in the middle of a puddle of 2 gallons of fuel!
