Previous owner had wired in some mach tweeters, but I replaced those with the tweeters that came in my Infinity component set but they remain behing the mach grille so it looks factory. I think someone mentioned earlier in the thread that all tweeters were the same and not to waste your time... they're not the same, so if you're going to take the time to rip the door apart, you might as well replace them IMO. U just bought everything little by little for a couple months and then installed it all in that one weekend. It's easier if you just do it all at once when the interior is all ripped out, but again just my opinion.
i agree with that, but if i had a mach system car, i'd leave the factory tweets but unplug them and run the new tweets near the drivers seeing as high frequencies travel faster than low frequencies... i've had good luck with this m ethod in the past. rather than putting the tweeters in my ear and not hearing any mids

You have a pic of the location you're talking about? Mine are in the stock mach location behind the mirrors, but I want to angle them just a lil' inside the stock housing so they face the passengers more... just haven't figured out how yet or spent the time. I'll probably have to make a custom bracket.

just mounted near the driver... i usually cut the door panel right above the driver.. if i can't find a place to mount them like that, i buy co-axials rather than components... i got infinity reference co-axes for the back of my coupe but haven't bought fronts yet... i'm going to go with co-ax on those too because i want the interior to look stock

Ooooohhh I thought u meant by the actual driver of the car that's why I was confused... (used to calling them woofers)HAHA. Yeah, I get what you mean. I have a setup like that in my truck with Qlogic kick panels. I've got the reference components in front and reference 2 ways like you in the rear. Mine looks totally stock and yours will too if you have the mach tweeters... if not then yeah, I get what u mean.

did you figure out what was wrong with your system? was it definitely the amps or was it the speakers?

For as long as Ive had my car the lows never worked, so I automatically figured the speakers were just blown. Ive never had a problem with the sound actually going out though

at least you covers are on your rear deck. i have some p.o.s. covers on the side panels in the rear and when i took them off to try new speakers, the clips for the passenger one broke and won't go back on and the drivers one had half of them break. luckily it was the lower half and the seat holds it in. i got a new cover for the pass side one, but the clips are straight, not curved like the original, and is now sitting in my trunk with the speaker fully exposed. it's a good thing i put my 9 yr old on that side in the back and threatened them both with bodily harm if they mess with the speakers. do you know how i am supposed to put that cover on?

I used instructions that were real helpful, you might wanna try them out
Mach 460 Information

Quote:
Rear Speaker Removal: (Convertible)

The convertible has two speaker enclosures in the rear. One on each side of the rear seating compartment. Below are steps to removing the side panels to gain access to the enclosures.

1.

Lift up the rear seat a bit in the front. This will expose two white pins in the middle on both sides that hold the rear seat in place.
2.

Press them in and pull the seat up and out.
3.

The back top portion of the rear seat has two bolt on the bottom and a hanger on top. remove the bolts and pull the top rear seat out.
4.

The side panels are held in place by the Christmas tree pull pins, remove the pins and carefully remove each side panel.
5.

The Speaker enclosures will now be visible.
The installation is the reverse

woa good thread!!! well im on the same boat, after installing my pioneer 5900IB and jammin the crap out of my stock 2000 model year speakers, they are saying no more!! atleast the driver side 2.5 tweet. Its blown, stock papers speakres, especially 7+ year old speakers arent ment to be raped by a new HU (non pussy HU, like someone who prob has no idea about car audio mention in another thread). Damn bro, I was rooting for you though man, hoping the infinities would work, but seems like those proprietary amps are the gayness!...theres got to be some after market speakers!!! Im going over to caraudio.com and try to dig somehting up....

well done reading, and the news dont seem to be that good. In the end, really the best route is to do what everybody has already done and proven better, gut the mach460 speakers and amps, or by pass the amps and do a fresh rewire and choose amps and speakers at will. All thats really needed is one amp and a sweet set of components for the fronts and some coaxials for the rear running off the HU and ofcourse a 10 in the trunk with its amp. A set up like this will outshine the mach460 any day. Ive heard good things about the phoenix prsd components (about $100) , but those are 6.5 so, mdf adapter rings would have to be cutout to make them fit in the factory 6x8 spaces.

Well Im gonna have the stock speakers if you wanna buy them, Im thinking they are still good, I paid 200 for my 4 infiniti's so Id probably let all four stockers go for $50 bucks, as long as they still work, id even be willing to help some one pop of their door panel so we could plug them all in and test them.
