Good combo or not?

I have an 90 GT that is my daily driver so nothing crazy. Mods: 306, forged pistons, E303, 1.6 FMS RR, typhoon intake, MSD set up, BBK shorties w/ dumps, 24 lb injectors, 255 fuel pump, bigger MAF & TB, 3.55 gears, T-5, king cobra clutch, short throw shifter, etc... Thinking of going with AFR 165's cuz it is my street car. So what do ya'll think???

I'd say at the engine you'll have a really healthy torque curve, 370-390lbs till 4250rpms, then itll drop off.

power will peak close to 350hp @ 5.5K with 9:1 compression on that E303/306 combo.

it should be good for just at or over 300rwhp and somewhere in the 12s, about 107-110mph, depending on race weight & driver skill. with the 3.55s though, you wont be using much of 4th gear... that could effect your track performance.

if anyone can back me up on this, or provide a different opinion, feel free. its just my 2 cents.

Was thinking about the 3.73's but I drive alot on the highway. Would it make that much of a difference on the track?

You really won't see much of a difference between the 3.55's and 3.73's.It wouldn't be cost effective IMO for any potential gains....

the 165s make great power, and the E303 cam peaks around 5500. you wont be at 5500 in 4th crossing the line with 3.55s. you'll definately benefit from more gear naturally aspirated.

the best way to figure what kind of gear you need is to see what your end-goal ET and trap speed will be. if you're only aiming for 12s and 110mph, 3.90 or 4.10s work great.

if you go HCI and a power adder, making close to 500hp, looking at low 11s and 120something... the 3.55s will work.

it all depends on what rpm/speed you want across the finish line, and what rear end gear gets closest to the power peak and speed you're looking for in 4th gear. i hope thats a clear explanation.

in terms of gas mileage, camshaft overlap and superchargers hurt more than gears, in my experience. I still get 20-22mpg highway at 70ish, right around 2500rpms, with 3.90s naturally aspirated. just keep the cruising speed reasonable and when in town, keep the rpms low. you can always start weight reduction if gas mileage is a concern.
