GTO vs 'Stang
Face off...
The new GTO vs. The new Stang. GTO M6.....0-60 = 5.3 05 Stang A5 (thats right, Automatic) 0-60= 5.1 1/4 mile of both cars...= at 13.6 Skidpad info not available to me yet. The porcine GTO is, however at a disadvantage already due to a couple hundred lbs of weight. And for all of you who are wondering, the new mustang GT will grab about 5-8 feet of rubber with the 5M when you hit second...

You can even hear the engine rev a little before it pulls off, my automatic tranny must slipping; but I still got a hundred on it agaisnt your civic. Whadda you say?" The 05 (early 06) GTO will have Appx 400hp. It will cost appx 2K more than the already 35K GTO, placing it at around 37K compared to the Mustang GT 30K for 7K im sure we can install a nice blower or some such and the 3V should react like a dream to that...plus, we ahve the 06 Shelby possibly putting out 485 from what my higher ups say...

I am a ford sales Rep, not GM, so i digress to your price #'s, and that is the same thing they said when i went to a pontiac dealer "..different target audience..." IMHO, WHO???? or is it some sort of niche market that is filled ONLY by that car, the sales ppl at GM told me that it was semi-limited production, so that could be it...

Those specs are not always truly representative of average reality. The GTO, if outfitted with better and larger tires, would easily outhandle the Mustang, and as such it does so against the GM F-body cars. It has always been known that the GM cars were better road handling cars than Mustangs, and Mustangs are better street-strip car, because of the weight, and suspension design (the 4link works very well for hooking straight). That said, I'd have either car, as they are both great cars, it's just that they do have unique differences, and what you read is not always right, even to the the point of plain dishonesty, sometimes. As far as drivetrain goes, the LS1 is a more powerful engine, and the torque curves cannot be beat. Combine that with our tuning, which adds 27hp/33tq, to the rear wheels(bone stock), and you've got a substantially faster car, though spin off the line is horrible on streets. If I were going on looks, the Mustang of any year will be a better looking car, even with primer. I never really got into the lumina rear wheel drive look, but I guess if I had one, I'd just never look at it, when I'm outside of it. The Mustang always has been, always will be, the car everyone loves, is reasonable to upgrade, gives great across the board performance, looks great, and if they ever come back with 2000 Cobra R red, I'd seriously look into getting one of those.

i have to disagree.......i have owned 6 f-body vehicles, and i can say that none of them have impressed me at all with handling. even my 98 TA with subframe connectors, STB, lower control arms, and a adjustable panhard bar just doesnt seem to hold a turn well. i, in the past couple of days have pushed it a little bit to see what i could do, and a few times almost scared me. again, this is just my opinion....... |

your car is not lowered though. lower that thing about an inch and a half with some stiffer springs and that world will change in the corners... as for my .02 on the GTO.... great drivetrain (LS1 equipped with true duals and the new one with the 6.0 liter) BUT what the hell were they thinking with the body styling? <<<hoping they bring back the 'maro in '07. If not, then will just have to buy a vette i guess :mick: coker |

"put a blower on " blah blah
how about add a cam stall and long tubes? and walk away from your 05 or oh know what will we do when the ls2 comes out and has a 6.0 bore block and a 402 could be easily put together with a new crank and rods with no machine work needed to the block? and already ls6 head the 05 auto also falls on its face topend, the new 5 speed auto whose strength has yet to be tested with any kind of power run through it, though i am waiting to see a stalled verison running a nice set of 4.10s, and wasnt it pulled from another model like an explorer? It has a first gear similar to the t5 so it has a crazy first gear for an auto and will get out of the whole like a banshee especially with gears, This is the reason for the good 60" times, but the stock gto auto will walk it topend or anywhere past the 1/4 stock for stock.
