had a blowout this weekend

well i was in ft worth this weekend visting my girlfriend. i left around 5:30pm sunday evening. 50 miles south of ft worth....i had a blowout. the tread came completely off my wheel, and the sidewalls were just left. my front left cobra wheel is ground up on the rim of the wheel -- it looks fixable though. since i had my springs cut, i couldnt get enough leverage on my pos factory jack to get the car up high enough to put the spare on. so i called up roadside service and they got the car up for me. i drove back to ft. worth on my donut. yesterday my gf and i went to her storage unit, and i put all 4 of her stock wheels/tires on -- i didnt want to chance the other 2 original tires that remained (i had a flat on the other one before this blowout)

so i missed all 4 of my classes yesterday. i have been thinking how lucky i was to not have lost control going 75mph on the highway. the car was shakey but i managed to get it to the shoulder fine.

sucks trying to change a tire on the shoulder of a highway with 18-wheelers passing by!

any catastrophic loss of control or anything? I've never had a blow-out or a flat, I figure I'm due for a major one soon

i haven't had a blow out either. i'm glad you and your car are alright though!

replacing the jack and spare is probably the best thing someone can do for themselves. i have two jack stands and a 2 ton jack and a full sized spare in the trunk at all times in case of something like that.

This is exactly what was happening to all those Ford SUV's a couple of years back...actually, it happened to me in my Dad's Explorer come to think of it...

You were exceptionally lucky that nothing happened to you, Joe. Someone must have been watching over you...

he's lucky he wasn't driving one of those suv's. when they have blowouts, they flip since they're so top heavy.
