Chad's 2000 Mustang GT American Racer -- Disable/Enable Belt Minder

Text from link:

Disable/Enable Belt Minder -

Before doing this you must make sure:
Parking brake is set
Gearshift is in Park (for auto) Neutral for Manual
Ignition switch is OFF
All doors are closed
Drivers belt is unbuckled
Parklamps/headlamps are in the OFF position. (Autolamps will not affect the procedure.

1) Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (or ON) position. (DO NOT START THE ENGINE).
2) Wait until the safety belt warning light turns off. (App. 1-2min)
a. Steps 3-5 must be completed within 60 seconds or the procedure will have to be repeated.
3) Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending w/ the safety belt unbuckled. This can be done before or during the Belt Minder warning activation
4) Turn on the parklamps/headlamps, turn off the parklamps/headlamps.
5) Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the safety belt unbuckled.
a. After step 5 the safety belt warning light will be turned on for three seconds.
6) Within seven seconds of the safety belt warning light turning off, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt.
a. This will disable Belt Minder if it is currently enabled, or enable Belt Minder if it is currently disabled.
7) Confirmation of disabling Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light four times per second for three seconds.
8) Confirmation of enabling Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light four times per second for three seconds, followed by three seconds with the safety belt warning light off, then followed by flashing the safety belt warning light four times per second for three seconds again.
9) After receiving confirmation the deactivation/activation procedure is complete.

you should have posted this over in the "How to" area....

There are a lot of little tricks you can do on the newer (and some older) Fords.
The ones with all the options had more tweaks....

But good tip none the less Jake.

Did it yesterday and it worked.

I heard it this morning when I got in the car but will have to check it tonight or tomorrow morning to see if it reactivated.

Oncoming police offficers can still see you arent wearing it. And if you hit something YOU will KNOW you arent wearing it as well.

And air bags hitting the face and arms hurts like a MO FO !!

not that I speak from experience,..... but have seen the aftermath on cars that have come through the shop with deployed air bags....

seeing a face imprint on the driver air bag and skin and hair from the arms...

Better than a face imprint on the windsheild and it is worse with no seat belt cuz you keep going forward and the air bag is going the oppisite direction....
Think about it..

Instructions were in my owners manual. I turned it off within a couple of days of buying the car (in 04). I always buckle on the road but at the time I might just be moving the car or sitting in it with the engine running. I know to buckle up, I don't need a computer harassing me until I do so.

I like this deal.. if I'm sitting in the parking lot durring school or waiting on my girlfriend... Its not all that comfortable to sit with a freakin belt on.. this is nice cause then I dont have to buckle it behind me just to lose that stupid sound.. haha
+1 thanks!

Seat belt saved my life in 2002 when my friend lost control of his acura @ 90 and hit a pole, it killed him since the pole hit the drivers door. I somehow stumbled away with only scars and a dislocated shoulder......whats wierd is eventho I got out somehow, and the seat belt was buckeled and locked tight...(I have no idea how cause I blackedout and dont remember anything from 1 min before the wreak to about 15-20 mins after the wreak when the paramedics were trying to keep me still......They said I wandered into the road....I guess looking for help. This was in Grand Prairie/Irving cant remember the name of the road tho, right in front of railroad tracks, My friend cross is on the pole we hit.

This was a good How-to thread that got mucked up by a seat belt debate.
