My wife got the same one off of Ebay (except it was chrome). I didnt have any problems installing it except for the same problem you are having and I resolved it quickly. All I had to do was butt the CAI neck up against the TB with the rubber boot already installed on the TB and clamp it down. Yeah it really dosent fit right, but it works I suppose.

Oh, and its on a 97 3.8

the one I got was chrome too, but it looks to be almost exactly like that. I had a biatch of a time gettin that thing on there the first time. I suggest taking off the middle conector sleeve and starting over from right there. It worked for me... for whatever reason the second time I put that piece back on it fit like it was meant to go there. Mine was for a 4.6 but its all the same stuff generally.

Truthfully the ebay CAI are hurting performance if anything. There very thin aluminum which heatsoaks horribly. Engines like cool air. So I doubt the kink in your CAI is really hurting much. You should be able to make what you have work, just spend a little time with it and do what I said in a previous post.

The best CAI's are the plastic ones. There less resistant to heat, but a little pricey. I built a homemade CAI for my 88 out of schedule 40 PVC and some frenco couplers from Home Depot. Cost about $10 and really is effective as far as keeping the air cool and the air charge straight. :jeff:

yup... densecharger makes a plastic one too for your 6 banger. i used a half steel half plastic CAI on my '00 6 banger, decent results from the dyno.
