Help with Explorer

So i was driving this morning in the wife's explorer, and the check engine light came on. this is a 2000 Ford Explorer XLS with the 4.0L OHV motor. just wondering where can i check what code it's throwing out. I know on the mustang with the trip reset and key turning how to pull up codes, but the explorer is all analog. any ideas, suggestions? or better yet, if anyone is in El Paso is willing to maybe come verify that I didn't screw up anything in the engine. I did clean the MAF with MAF cleaner two days ago and take off the throttle body and use throttlebody cleaner on it and port match it to the intake. but everything is together the way it was and it's tight....so i don't know. will disconnecting the battery and waiting like 2 hours clear the code. i don't know, that's why i'm asking.

You could take it to Auto Zone. They will read the code for free and reset the computer.

It doesn't take 2 hours to clear the code. I get the CE light on my Tahoe about every other month. I disconnect the battery for about a minute and it is clear. Stays off for 6-8 weeks. It is an emissions problem but dosen't seem to cause any problems......yet. Same thing on the Mustang I used to have. Came on about every 8 weeks or so. Cleared in a minute.

we've had some explorers come into our shop with check engine lights on, I know one was an egr code, the other was a catalytic converter. good luck.

HAHAHAHA. Fuck Johnson-sewall Ford in their prick asses. so not only did i get the explorer without a spare tire AT ALL (which is my damn fault for not checking) but....I went to autozone and tried to have them look at the fault. didn't register on the data transfer coupler. hm......decided to check the Fuse . no Fuse in the socket at all. went inside. bought 5 mini 10A fuses (only need one for fucks sake) for $4. installed said Fuse . went inside. went outside with fault checky motherfucking thingee. doesn't work. drive down street to next car shop. get goddamn mother fucking check engine light tester crap thing. doesn't work. NOW I'M PISSED OFF. Drive down road 3 more god damn motherfucking shitlicking miles to....ANOTHER god damn mother fucking shit licking cock gagging autozone. tester doesn't work here either. blowing gaskets in head ensues. drive back on post. park at barracks. pull tools outta the back and go apeshit on stuck fucking hex head bolt on battery clamp. curse. bleed. curse more. get wd-40. spray bolt. get wd-40 in cut on hand. blow 3 more gaskets and cuss in 2 languages besides english. get bolt undone. get other bolt undone. sit in 28 degree (minus wind chill) weather for 10 minutes. drop phone and electrocute myself grounding ratchet to negative terminal. oww. so much cussing that an MP drives by. no check engine light anymore. tomorrow buying a mother fucking moped.

man that sucks dude.... if the obd port isn't working, take it to a dealer.. i think that port is part of a special warranty for emissions shit... coverage should extend far beyond the standard power train or bumper to bumper warranty

If there is no connection ability with a scanner, the OBDII port has no power. Sounds like a fuse issue for that as well, if not possibly a wire connection.

But a great last story there, I was lmfao the whole time reading it. Not at your problem, but the way you worded it all.
