Help With Title

Hey guys, I bought a 66 mustang body without a title and I do not know who the last person was that titled the car. Does anyone know the procedures to get a title for this car?

Go to your local tax assesor/collector and see if they can pull up the info by the vin # or plate #. They should be able to give you this info and let you know if the title holder has report the car as being SOLD. The only way you will be able to get a title is to find out that individuals last known address and send a certified letter stating that you have purchased the car and need his help getting the title. If there is no response then you get that letter back (sealed) with a bill of sale and take it to the court house. There you will have to ask for a hearing to be held and you tell the judge you situation. If the title holder does not try to reclaim the car within this time and the car has not been reported as stolen of course, the the judge will award you the title. When you go to the tax office and ask them about this problem, you will have to get someone that knows about this particular procedure or else you will get some 9-5er that doesn't even know that this process is possible.They will give you all of the necessary forms for you to go to the court with. It's also not good if you bought the car from someone else who never transfered the title from the current title holder because that means that they never paid taxes on the vehicle and the judge will not like that it has changed hands with taxes being paid. Try these guys out...Welcome to Lawrence Auto Title these are the guys I went through when I got mine (I lost the title while I was restoring it and it had never been transferred) They are super nice and super fast!!! Check out their website and call them, they will answer any questions you may have.

I feel for ya', it is a horrible feeling when you can't find the title! But these guys hooked me up and now I have title in hand

You can PM me if you have any questions and maybe you can call me at work or something...bottem line...I cannot reccomend these guys enough!!!!!

I don't think that they actually hold the hearings anymore, this is what both New Braunfels and Boerne told me, instead they now do bonded titles to reduce the number of hearings...I just went through this process two years ago w/ my 70

Thanks for all the info. I called and talked to Lawrence Auto Title. They are really nice and answered all my questions. Here is the info that they gave me, sorry if I left something out, I’m going off of my memory.

They told me that you will need to send them a check for $100.00, a Bill of Sale (has to have the year, make, model, and VIN on it), a letter with your name, address, phone number, what the situation is, and that you want a Bonded Title. They will fill out all the paperwork and send it to you. When you receive the paperwork you have to finish filling it out and have the vehicle appraised by a car dealer. If the car is not operational, you can have it appraised using a photo of the vehicle. After you have the paperwork and appraisal completed, send them the paperwork and appraisal back with a check for the cost of the bonded title ($100.00 for $6667.00 or less). When you receive the Bonded Title, you have 30 days to take it down and get a Texas Title before it expires or you will have to go through the process again.
