Hood struts: Who has them?

Do you have hood struts? What brand? Where'd you get them? How was installation, was it a PITA? Is your hood crooked when it's open? Are they black or "chrome"?

I'm looking to pick up a set soon, and the MRT pieces look most appealing since they're just a bolt on item. You don't have to rivit them down or anything.

Thanks!

$130? Damn. MRT's are $99... which I think is pushing it. I just can't see why something like these costs so much.

I have redline. Worked great on my stock hood, but not so great on my new hood. Wish I would have got the MRT's as they may have worked better with my new hood.

Mounting location is what got me on the new hood.

Go with the MRT's Dave.

Why didn't the RedLine's work very well?

I've got redlines also, but they were on the car already when I got it. They're the rivet type. I like em' cuz I hate the stupid prop rod, but if I were buying them first time, I'd probably buy the bolt-on type you're looking at. As far as I know, the hood is straight when it's open, nothing noticeable, but never really paid attention to it. And they're black.

aftermarket hoods usually say they are "made to spec" but never are, so a lot of stuff doesnt work well with them. the bolt in stuff is easy to install as all you do really is take off the hood, then get the factory hinges off and install the new ones. shouldnt take more than 30 minutes i think.

I just put MRT struts yesterday. They took about 20-30 minutes to bolt on and work great. They are black.

Worked fine on the stock hood. With the new hood the rivets pulled out on one side. The MRT's wouldn't have done that since they bolt to the hinge.

Then again, the redlines were used and I used different rivets than the stock ones, so it may have helped cause the pulling out of my new hood. Not to knock them since they worked great on the stock hood, but no matter what hood I used with the MRT's wouldn't have to worry about them pulling out rivets.

I have Redline's Elite series on my 03 Cobra hood. No problems with them at all, and installation only took like 15 minutes.

I've got the MRT's, Davey, and love them. Weren't hard to install and no drilling. Painted to match as well. Probably the ONLY mod I've bought once instead of twice.

Dave for sure do the MRT ones, thats what I have. They look more factory, dont have to drill and take up less room. Mine

VS redlines

I had the redline Tuning struts for a good while. Took them off and sold them only because I thought I was getting a new hood. Didn't happen. If I buy another set it will be the MRT units.

Redlines in black. Been on for 4 years and never had an issue. Hood is straight when open. Took like 15 min to install and as long as you read the directions have the proper bit size and pull the rivets tight you wont have a problem. Dont let the drilling part scare ya. I pd like 60 for um. I only wish I had speung for the powder coated brackets.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. After seeing pics of the MRTs and the RedLines compared, I think I'll stick with the MRTs. The RedLines almost look awkward, they're so big.
