    houston transmission shops

Does anyone know of any good transmission shops in Houston? My tranny is leaking fluid from all of the seals and is in desperate need of a rebuild. I am thinking about doing some upgrades to it while it is apart but don't know where to take it. Any info is appreciated.

tremec 3550. I was just thinking about turning it into a TKO while it was apart. But it all depends on price.

In order to do that, you will need a new 31 spline output shaft and 26 spline input shaft, have the tailhousing machined to accept the larger rear bushing, seal and you will need to swap the clutch disc to a 26 spline version since a TKO uses a 26 spline input shaft. You will also need a 31 spline yoke for the driveshaft.

I know a GREAT trans shop up in east texas, but you probably wouldn't want to make the drive.

Its in Gun Barrel City, Tx. Place is called Gun Barrel Transmissions. They have done several of the transmissions for my family and my 4R70W automatic. Cost me 1300 bucks, but they used everything I asked for and the price is pretty good.

I will be taking my new C6 up there to get freshened up this summer before I drop in the new 460, and they told me 600 out the door with Alto components and modifying the valve body.

Its about 3 1/2 hours north of houston.
    2001 GT swapped to "Cobra" w/ Teksid, forged internals, 10:8.1 comp, C port heads PnP'd by Jason Steen, 304cfm @ .500 lift, FR500 cams, PI, LT's, O/R X, Borla's, QA1 and UPR everywhere, subframe conn's, swarr barr, custom AL DS behind a 4R70W trans. 332rwhp/327rwtq last dyno. Runs 11.93's @ 114 mph. With 3300lbs~!

That actually wouldn't be too bad. My dad lives in Dallas. How are they time wise? This is my only car and I won't be able to have it in the shop for weeks on end.

Is it worth doing this to a t3550 or just spending the two grand and buying a TKO?

i would buy a tko if that's what you want.. i'm no expert but i've learned that it's easier to buy waht you want than to buy something kinda like what you want and turn it into what you want.. you could sell the 3550 and buy a tko...
