How difficult is installing a cat-back?

Well, since my warranty is up in another few weeks, it is finally time to start on that long list of mods. I figure I can start with something that should be relatively simple. How about a new cat-back? I was thinking the MagnaFlow since I like the sound clips. Is the cat-back really just a bolt-on affair? I know that I need to cut off my old cat-back, so where can I get a sawzall? How is it powered? I live in an apartment, so unless I can borrow someones garage for an afternoon, I may need a really long extension cord Other than the cutter, is a socket wrench set all that is needed? Do I need to jack up the whole car, or just the rear? Help would be appreciated, or maybe this could be the start of another mod day. Or I could just take it to Toni, what do installs run?

Jason,
Go to the hobby shop on base. They have all the tools you need and a lift. You can probably do a catback in about an hour. If you need any help PM me.

Hobby shop on base is great. $3.50 an hour for a lift. Just dont let the old farts that work there get to you.:2thumbup:

Piece of cake. If you need a cutter you can get an exhaust tubing cutter from auto zone that makes a nice cut, but you should be unbolting it from the H-Pipe and pulling it over the rear. I could lend a hand if I have time. I have a floor jack and all necessary stuff to do it with so let me know.

Jason, I'll be doing the same thing as you soon here. I have an x pipe and I'll be getting a cat back as well.

Once you take your stock cat back off, I could find a buyer for it. Please don't throw it away. To us V6ers, your stock cat back is a performance upgrade.

wow, totally forgot about the base resources. How hard is a mid-pipe if you have alift? Dammit, see how easily a simple plan changes into a total rebuild!?!?!?

Just for everyones info, Mac catback systems come apart before the tail pipes to make it easier to install over the rear. Works great, did it on my car and it was a snap. A lot easier then the old flowmaster stuff that was on there. Was a PITA to get off even on a lift.
