How to clean a set of used heads?
I have a set of used "P" heads of a 97 explore & want to clean them up a little & maybe paint them. What is the best way to clean them up with out taking them to a machine shop?

I always take the heads appart, clean the valves with a wire wheel on a bench grinder and use a wire wheel on a drill to clean the combustion chanber and deck surface, I then put them in a parts cleaning vat and finish cleaning them. You could also try a few cans of carb cleaner.

Spray some oven cleaner on them and let them sit for about 30 minutes . After wards , take them to the car wash and spray them down . Try to avoid spraying in the areas where the valve stem seals are so you do not damage them . After that , blow them off really good with some compressed air and you should be good to go . If there is anything left on them , use a screw driver to lightly scrap it off and use some brake cleaner to clean them up some more .
