I think that guy has been accessing my mind and stealing my thoughts. Most of what he said is true in my opinion.

I like how people talk about things they really don't know about. Please, Mr. Internet Man, open a theology book, go to a theology class and see that the clergy is not what it was in the 1500s. The true teachings of the Church are that of human dignity and love.
Secularism isn't feared by the clergy, either. I have heard of it, but it's not anything like that man said. There's not one thing (event, class, conference, etc...) that I have been to that drills in this fear of secularism into us.
Things that I've learned from the Church (growing up in it, being involved in it, etc...) are love, patience, loyalty, understanding, acceptance, and all other good stuff that he (the guy in the video) was preaching.

I really don't know what else to say.... I'm not some fundamentalist and I don't want to start a debate. I'm just giving me two cents. Everyone has a right to their own opinion; and I believe that everyone can live together. Maybe that's just a dream; but we do it already, right?

With or with out religion , humans in general are creatures of war , power and greed . If we did not fight about religion , it would be something else . There have been wars since the beginning of time and there will be war right up until the end of time . There have been corrupt politicians since long before the United States was ever concieved . Power + money = corruption . None of these concepts are new and all of them have been here since the beginning .

Anyone that believes taking God out of the equation will solve matters is just ignorant . God put your sorry ass here and you'd better believe he can take your sorry ass out as well .

yin and yang

There's good and there is bad in everyone. Majority of people like to dwell on the bad...

Yes, it is human to fight. It is human to disagree. It is human hate. Humans aren't perfect.

Or are we? Because it is also human to love.

I'm sure God appreciates your shit talking!

I am not claiming that we need to remove 'God' from the entire earth. I believe we need to remove it from politics though. You are free to worship whatever god and join whatever Religion you want to in America and will always have that freedom. No one has ever tried to take that away from you in this country. In fact, it's one of our most treasured rights, not to oppress someone for their beliefs.

However, plenty of people in power in this country have tried to force a particular religion onto people. Prayer in schools and using tax payer money to put the Ten Commandments on display or two that come to mind. Also, Changing the Pledge of Allegiance to include God in it. Changing our currency to include God in it.

The last two things were included in the 20th century folks. Don't get mad at those who don't believe for trying to remove it from your life because we aren't trying to remove it from your life. We are trying to remove it from government, as there is no place in government for Religion.

Pledge of Allegiance from 1923 to 1952 was:
Quote:
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.
Then in 1952 they decided that Religion had to be involved:
Quote:
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.
As for Currency:
Quote:
A law was passed by the 84th United States Congress (P.L. 84-140) and approved by the President on July 30, 1956. President Dwight D. Eisenhower approved a joint resolution declaring In God We Trust the national motto of the United States. The same Congress had required, in the previous year, that the words appear on all currency, as a Cold War measure: "In these days when imperialistic and materialistic Communism seeks to attack and destroy freedom, it is proper" to "remind all of us of this self-evident truth" that "as long as this country trusts in God, it will prevail."

That's what I have a problem with.

Well, why don't you explain your problem and then we can compare? My problem is a government treating a soldier different and punishing him for his beliefs or lack there of. What is your problem with this?

Are you a soldier ? Have you ever served ? I for one think they get treated pretty damn good compared to how things were years ago . You talk about all this bullshit with modern government and presidents but what about soldiers that served in WWI or WWII or even Viet Nam ? Did they get treated any better ? What about the soldiers that fought in the civil war or any other war ? The answer is simply NO .

Unless you are drafted , you willingly join the armed forces . You collect a check for doing so . Its like any other job , you show up , you do your job , you get paid and yes there is bullshit you have to put up with .

Sure. They get treated better. Doesn't give them the right to discriminate against a soldier for their beliefs. This country has a serious problem accepting people who don't believe in a God. I don't have to wear a military uniform for one day to find that unacceptable. Just because they don't have to dig trenches doesn't mean they suddenly have their rights revoked.

and yet here you are, continuing to make excuses. That's all I ever hear from you in retaliation to current problems. "Oh its better today than yesterday, stop bitching". "Oh you weren't even alive when this happened, stop bitching."

What the hell does that have to do with discrimination?

Quote:

and there are plenty of lawsuits of people getting discriminated in the civilian work place. I hope you never have to lose out on thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars because someone didn't like your opinion on Religion.
