Ok, so I have this 78 Monarch, just trying to get it running. 302 V8

No spark,

has a new coil & ign. module.
Has power to coil & ign. module
I'm hoping that the pickup in the dist isn't bad. It's been soooooooooo long since I worked on one of these I can remembver how to test it. Any help appreciated here.

Pull the coil plug off the dist. see if there is spark going to it. If not and you have volts to the coil then the coil is bad. If you have spark then check the cap & rotor se if they are bad.

I know the coil and ignition module are good because I bought them this afternoon. I've checked the cap and cleaned everything.

I'm getting a spark, but no spark. Let me explain.

When cranking there's no spark coming from the coil, however, just as you let up on the key to stop cranking it will fire 2 times. So it is capable of putting out a spark but for some reason it isn't while you are cranking it over. What I need to do next is test the pickup for the toothed ring on the dist shaft, however I don't remember how to test it.

sounds like the picup coil in the dist is bad...take a test lite....hook it to the neg batt cable....touch the neg side of the coil...have someone crank the motor and see it the light flashes it prob won't and and that will tell you the pickup is bad..... :jeff:

that sounds about right, id be happy to try and help if you need it some time later in the week i had to do that a looooog time ago i kinda rember how to do it

Ok, I checked and the same thing happened as before. No spark until you're letting off of the key, then it will hit 2 and only 2 times. So the pickup is the next thing in the chain to replace however, with the pins in it it looks like I'll have to pull the dist to replace it. Or can it be replace without pulling the dist?

I feel like such an idiot asking these questions. I used to do this crap all the time and now I can't remember some of the simplest things.

Len, one last thing. There are 2 Orange wires and one Black going to the pickup. Should one of these have power with the key on? None of the 3 have power with the key on.

And thank god for remanufactured parts. I found a reman distibutor for $50
