I have Vista Home Premium on the PC that John#21 helped me build.... no problems thus far.

From what I've heard... some of the problems people have running Vista are due in part to lack of RAM. It's recommended to have at least 2 GB of RAM to run Vista properly. Some of the discount PCs and Laptops you can buy only come with 1 GB of RAM. We built mine with 4 GB of RAM, and the motherboard will accept up to 8 GB.

Thats the main problem why people dont like vista. They are upgrading their old computers and are running 512MB or 1GB and trying to run Aero. If you have atleast 1.5gb of ram VIsta is wonderful..

I need a new laptop...start up takes like 5 to 10 minutes and it keeps shutting itself off like the power cord isn't working although I see no problems with the cord and with no cats anymore I know there aren't bite marks somewhere on it!! This this is from 2001, so I think I am due for an upgrade...suxors though cuz I use it for teh intraweb and that is all!!

might wanna try a defrag and scan disk. if that does work, get an external hard drive and move all you important stuff over to it and then reformat. If all you do is internet and basic stuff a laptop from 2001 is fine, no need to spend 500+ dollars on a new one. But if it has 8 years of stuff on it, that will slow it down ALOT

before you buy one try buying a can of compressed air and blowing all the dust out of the exhaust fan. my old laptop used to shut down because the processor temp was getting too hot so the computer automatically shut it self down. i ended up paying a guy to replace the exhaust fan. but if you do get a new one get a mac. you will love it. sry if i keep repeating my self i just love mine.

Gonna try both of those things. I know I have quite a few pictures on here...especially since Cameron was born, but Jeff has an external hard drive that i bet I could move it all to and still access it from our network.
