Dixie Tire in Bryan, I haven't had cats for 4 years
I won't let them drive my car though. They can ride with me and see if my brakes etc are working.

I'm not sure but I think if your car is registered in an emissions county then you have to have an emissions test. I'm from the The Woodlands so in May when my inspection comes up I think I'm going to have to get an emissions test because Montgomery county just started requiring them last June I think.

I went over to "quicker sticker" behind napa in CS over by the post office. He has a new building... anywho... I asked him about me, and he said he doesn't care.. as long as there is a cat. I said what about high flow cat or something like that. He said all I do is look under there, see if there is a cat, and crawl right back out. So he doesn't do "emissions testing" there. My brother lives in Fort Worth, and they require emissions testing there. His vehicle is registered there.... altho, he gets it done down here. Reason being,... it's only 12.50 here. up in the dallas are it's like 30+(I don't exactly know the price... but I know it's at least double what we pay down here) That is why he drives down here, to get it done... plus he's already down here visiting and stuff.

I hope this helps.

So they will let you get it done here if your vehicle is registered in an emissions county?

They let my bro do it here... now he's in one of those counties up there, which I'm not sure if you can with your specific county. I would just go over there to that quicker sticker I was talking about, and see what he says.

The guy that owns that runs it as well... it's just him, and I've been going to him for as long as I've driven, and my dad has gone to him ever sense we've lived here(12 years). He's a cool guy, and is very fast at what he does... you'll be in and out in 10 min. tops

I will put an end to the discussion, I have an answer.

I am born and raised in DFW. I moved down here last semester for college. Emmision testing in DFW costs $45. My vehicle is registered in DFW. All you have to have is an address in the area and they test your car - no emmisions testing - even if your car is registered in an area where it would be required.

Bottom Line: Yes, you get tested here - everything but emmisions wherever you are from as long as you have a local address.

Hope this helps...

follow up

The place i go to said that you must have an address locally. I dont think that you can get away with saying that you do if you dont. You have to supply one before they look.

Although, they never varified it, I guess you could give a fake one.

Although I do not condone such behavior

Plus it's a lot cheaper... as James says it's 45 bucks up there.. and I know it's $12.50 here.

Well....emissions testing is a lot more expensive that is why...you have to pay for an inspection, and then the emissions test...of course it would be cheaper if they just do an inspection.... :d'oh:

The reason it is so expensive is because of the new technology they use to detect harmful molecules. The element that is inserted in the tail pipe is very expensive and usually wears out after just a few tests. On the plus side for the gov-ment, it is muuuch more acurate and reliable. It also tests the temperature of the catalytic converters. They can tell if you have high-flow or damaged cats because they run a lot hotter.

Down here, all they look for is that you have cats at all - they dont check temp or model.

That is why it is only $12.50, the government only charges you fees for the sticker, taxes, and they pay the place performing the inspection - I believe only $3 or so.

Hope this helps :jeff:
