Install a Cold Air Intake | 2005 Mustang GT

Hello fellow 05-06 stangers this is my 1st of 4 mods that I will be doing and posting how I did and what problems I ran into whale doing em
I am going to do the mods my self. After spending $2300.00 I am out of cash to pay a shop to do the installs. I am not a mechanic but I can read with comprehension..And have very good common sense..

Ok now here’s my install on mod number 1 the cold air intake
The 1st thing I did was let the car cool down (pics 1 & 2) once the car cooled down, I removed the air box (pic 3& 4) then I removed the air tube from the throttle body (pic 5)

After removing I discarded the air filter and air box (pic 6) now you will need to remove the MAF (mass air flow sensor)(pic 7) cause you’ll need to put it on the new CAI (be sure to be careful removing the sensor because it may be stuck in place) now install the MAF on the new housing(pic 8) pay attention to what type of screws were holding the sensor in place(some are machine screws and others are self taping screws) Pic 9 shows the MAF installed.
Now install the CAI body to the throttle body. Note; installation was a little difficult to get on because the silicone gasket was very tight (pic 10)

Now I installed the MAF assembly to the CAI (pic 15) then installed the heat shield (pic 12) then remove the first bolt on the valve cover (pic 14) (this is where the bracket for the CAI lines up to. Mounting the CAI bracket was a little difficult because there are 2 bolts under the MAF housing that were hard to get a wrench to tighten up, don’t forget to hook up the PCV (pic 16) now tighten everything down (pic 17)

Now mount the air filter to the CAI, don’t forget to remove the wrapper from the filter (pic 18) before you install it.lol . Now make sure that you plugged the MAF back to the harness and make sure all your clamps are tightened to about 15 lbs
Now I am done and the car is ready for the new tune! (pic 21)
Please note; I don’t recommend that you start your car with your new CAI until you load your new tune. (Motor may run lean without new tune)

Nice write up man, gotta love the C&L cold air. I've had mine on for over a year with zero problems.

You won't have any problems doing everything yourself. If you take your time all will be well. I'd rather buy mods then pay a shop.

Keep us posted on the install, and let me know if you need a hand with anything.

Let me know how you like those kooks, those are some $$

Whats the sizes on the silicone connectors?
In glancing at mine I would say 5" at the Throttle body and 4" by the filter...?
Would love to get color coordinated connectors. Anyone know where you can pick up
    yellow in those sizes?

I have had the KN for almost a year now and I love it. I gained ~10-15rwhp. I could feel and hear a difference. Good thing is you can use with or without a tuner. So if you ever need to take you car to the dealership you dont have to worry about driving your car with a intake that cant use the stock tune.

So the K & N you don't have to use a tune? I thought after you put any aftermarket CAI your car has to be tuned. That's why i haven't got one.

there are like 2 or 3 that dont require a tune. they can benefit and give even better results with a tune but they dont require it like most of them do. the KN is a very good one that doesnt require a tune and i had it for a while and was great

Its really nice to see that you have full confident on yourself which is simply an inspiration for the others...after seeing this many people will take chance to do it by themselves
