    interior paint

my friend painted his gray interior of his car and i thought i would do the same. i have delilah's insides out and im preping them for paint(washing with soap/water then alcohol). i started painting a small part and i noticed some nasty looking bubbles. i thought it was still wet so after it dried, i whipped it down with a clean towel then a tac cloth. i painted again and it keeps coming back up after 3rd coat. is it the humidity(~83%)?

im looking at a humidifier on craigslist for $50 but i thought i should ask before driving up to satx.

    thanks!!

It's your factory waterbased dye reacting to your solvent based dye. STOP ! or you will have to strip everything and it really sucks ! I did interiors for a living call me tomorrow and I can give you some tips to help you out!! It may also have been repaired before or dyed by a co. that uses waterborne dyes. My number is 210-843-5308 call me mon after 9am.

Hey don it really matters on the year of vehicle your doing. Any thing from 99-10 ford was forced as well as GM to switch dyes. They used the same chemicals to paint their trim as they used on leather seats. You need to use extremely light coats and shoot it at a distance so that they paint is almost going on dry and that it's not building up wet on top of the surface. The solvent will penetrate the surface and cause it to wrinkle or bubble up. And don is right most plastics nowadays is polypropylene or polyothelene (PP or PO the back of the part) which is a greasy plastic if the surface is raw plastic like the fox bodies and you need to primer or promote it. It's good to use a promoter on the newer stuff as well but shoot it in very light coats to avoid the surface bubbling or wrinkling.

This is the paint I've been using..

    The outcome so far.

It's coming along very well actually. It's better to do it in the sun for sure. Delilah is all taped up but I'm going to have to finish it this next weekend. Got alot of house work I need to do first. I'll be driving around in it with tape everywhere lol.

I used Dupli-color on the driver seat and it looks nasty vs the other seats. Damn this is taking a long time to do...

I called you back and left a message , don't know if you got it? Did it help doing lighter coats and obviously the sun helped alot. The key is to keep it dry so the solvents don't sit on the waterborne dye. Also for the kick panels and scuff plates you may definitly want to use bulldog adhesion promoter. That stuff is the best ! Lol! Gl bud and I'm serious if you have any ?s call me. I got caught up in some stupid work stuff today so I apologize that I couldn't help a whole lot!

Ask agent jones I'm sure he knows how !! Lol ! Jk man! I had to be the first to crack that joke ! Hahahaaa!

Google it , there are alot of how to's out there. It should have bolts or nuts on the bottom behind the lower section. Someone might remember the link to the other thread if Ray didn't try to delete it already. Lol! There was a link to a "how to" in there.

After you pull the lower section out there should be a bolt on each side about in the center remove those and swing out the bottom and the top will release from the clips. Pretty much it.

I know a place that can redo the visors and headliner for waaaay less than buying replacements. They did my 85 headliner and visor for less than the cost of a new headliner alone.

I've been in the buisness for many years and i've heard that it can't be used but I've seen a couple other venders on used car lots touch up leather with a can. I think that's a bad way to do it but I've seen alot of crazy stuff. I have a urethane finish that is awesome that I use and can guarantee that it won't flake off! Lol! Spray cans don't have enough elasticity to work well on leather. SEM's makes a new product though called classic coat that is supposed to be used on leather but mostly for touch ups , I wouldn't recommend a color change though. If anyone needs help just hit me up and I can help you out. 210.843.5308. I don't want to plug my buisness so if you want to hit me up I can give you my companies website and you can check some of the stuff we do.

I used the Dupli color line on my 85 and now that its all finished I must say the stuff worked real well even on the few metal pcs in a fox interior. Overall Im happy with the product and the results.
Ill say this clean everything with hot soapy water and let it dry completely. Wipe it all down with IPA (isopropyl alcohol) and use adhesion promoter and you shouldnt have any issues.
