iPods and Factory Head Units
Is anyone running an iPod through their factory stereo head unit? If so, how are you doing it?
My wife just got a Nano and is using an FM transmitter in her truck. While it works ok, I'd like to get an iPod for the 'Stang and would prefer a hardwired connection. Unfortunately, all the hardwire options I can find say they only work with the base head unit, not the in-dash changer head unit. So, if you're using your iPod through your car stereo, let me know how you're running it so I can get some ideas. Thanks!

The best way to run them is with an aftermarket stereo, I think pioneer and panasonic make modules you can connect to their decks to interface the Ipod. The other way is to use RCA jacks on an aftermarket deck (that has inputs) and have the wire run to an area of th car you can access it, so then you can just use the headphone jack from the ipod...
everythingelse is wireless transmittal or cassette adaptor... |

Yeah ^^ I agree with what he said.
If your stock radio has a changer input on it, you could possibly splice some wires and rig some rca inputs. Best thing would be aftermarket head unit with aux ins. They come in both flavors of rca's or 3.5 inch jack and ipod friendly or not. |

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I really don't want to lay down the $ on an aftermarket head unit, though. I'd already have to pay a fortune for the iPod itself...much more than that makes it not worth the cost.

As for not being worth the cost...the iPod keeps everything simple and clean with no more scratched cds. That alone saves me a TON of money.

u can go either way, but with smaller transmitters come smaller parts that may not work as well. I haven't heard much feedback on the nano transmitters though... |

As for hardwiring, there are no controllable solutions for the Mach 460 head unit. There are devices that will allow you to run RCA cables into the SAT input, but all you'll have control over is volume - you'll have to pick songs and such from the iPod itself. Still, going that route is about the same cost as an FM transmitter, which all you have control over is volume, also. The hardwired route seems better, to me.

you can try to see if they still sell the ipod remote, they stopped including it in the 3rd or 4th gen, but that may help |

Anyone know if the 2004 Mach 460 head unit has an extra port or not?
