The rumor I heard was the people running the tracks did not want to invest in up keep on the tracks because the old lady who owns the land did not want to sell it to them . They had been operating both tracks under a lease for years .

There's a paved circle track there next to the strip. October before last when I was still working at the Toyota plant I went by the track after work. Shit all grown up everywhere. It'll probably sit there like that until everything just falls down.

Alamo Dragway had it's great years. I still have picks of Shirley Muldowny and Don Prudome and all the other greats that raced back in the late 70's. My dad used to take me out there for all the big events.

Once I was old enough to drive I went out there in the Maverick and realized that you needed to dodge the potholes and hope that you can slow down enough to take the exit at the end of the track. I only every made 2 runs on that track stopped there if fear of tearing something up.

Back in April of 07 it was announced by Crosswinds National LLC they planned to develope 535 acres on the s/w corner of hiway 16 and watson road which with would contain 1200 houses and 360 apartment to be called The Preserve on The Medina. The circle track sits on the north corner across from the planned developement.Thats an earshot for the noise,so that took care of the speedway.I raced at Alamo in the mid 70's and raced cars at both the dirt and 1/2 mile speedway and my son raced at the 1/2 miler till it shut down. The 1/2 mile track tried to stay open.My son raced in a traveling series for the person who was leasing the track and from what he was told the city had some juridiction boundries changes and the city came in for an inspection of the electrical, plumbing etc and gave a time limit to get it all up to code and with the announcement of the developement,he got out while he could instead of spending a ton of $$$ on something that belonged to somebody else and the owner of the property wasnt to pay to do it.

The track is pretty much gone. The tower and bleacher's are gone and weeds have pretty much taken over. I think I saw one small building still there. The circle track still looks to be intact, but nothing going on.

I drove by there about a month back and saw it, it was kinda sad.
