Is there a Engine Vin stamp?

Does the motor on the Fox 5.0's have a vin number on them? I know they have a casting id number that tells the build year and such but can a motor be traced to the car it was on? Call me nastalgic but i have a 88 mustang and a 87 with no motor. i like the 87 but it has no motor. i want to keep the car original but i can't quite do that with the 87 since i would have to use a motor that didn't come with the car. if the motor can't be traced to the car then i'll keep the 87, if it can then i'm building up the 88. Thanks

i would definately guess that on a Honda. things get ripped over there is San Antonio like crazy. I ask this cause i see all these old posts of numbers matching GM cars from the 60's and such. seeing as how these Fox bodies are becoming classics and collectables i wanted to keep an original car. I have an original 89 vert, a 88 hatch and the 87 roller that puts the other 2 to shame as far as looks go. perfect body, nice paint. i just have to recheck if its an original V8 car so it could stay original. I just want to keep a nice original ride for my son to cruise when he hits high school. hell may keep all 3 seeing as i have 3 sons . i don't live in or near san antonio so i don't have to worry about theft, well only when i take the Fox to visit. its nice to say to hell with it when i forget to lock the doors or roll up the windows. Thanks a lot. now i may need to find a 302 and a T-5 or AOD in good shape for a good price

As long as the casting number is from the same generation it will be hard to dispute that it is the original motor.
So if you get a block with an 1987 casting date you should be ok.
