Hi Yall

95' 351W Roller Motor out of an F-150.
E-303 Camshaft Cloyes Dual Roller Timing Set MSD Billet Distributor (8584) w/ FRPP Steel Gear Bosch Platinum Plugs Taylor Spark Plug Wires MSD 6AL Box and Blaster 3 Coil Milodon High Flow Water pump Melling High Flow Oil Pump w/ HD Shaft Professional Products Typhoon Intake manifold 2" Carb Spacer Edelbrock 750 (I think its a bit big in this trim, figue a 650 would server just fine but I had the 750 setting around the shop collecting dust) Flex-A-Lite Black Magic #185 Cooling Fan ( If you have this fan or are going to get this fan dont neglect the instruction when it says not to put a ground wire on the "manual on" switch that is not the Flex-A-Lite switch because you think it still needs one because the ground wire will burn up) Be-Cool Eliminator Series 2 Row Direct-Fit Aluminum Radiator (Which isnt direct fit, has brackets that you have to cut off, and has the inlet and outlets swapped so I had to spend a lot of extra time getting it custom fit and mounted, and finding misc. radiator hoses to work with the swapped sided ports) So far its running good, save for the slipping problem with the clutch. And is was great to finally get the engine running to blow out the cobwebs built up in the flowmaster 40s.

Replace the spark plugs and the cam, never use Bosch or platinum plugs in ford or any performance application. If you run the car hard it probably won't take long for the car to gain a miss as a result of the plugs. The cam is small for a 351, but it will work. If you are going to put a 351 in the car instead of a 302, I would want something that would run faster than 12s. It is easy to get a 302 into the 12s or even 11s on motor, a 351 car should run at least low 11s, I would want at least 10s. I had a friend who used a Comp conversion roller cam that had very close to the same duration and lobe centers as a E cam, but a lot more lift. That engine woud run out of steam past 5400 rpm. It ran 12.80s most of the time and I think a few 12.60s. The combo you put together should run in the 13s. Also you are right about the carb, if you have stock heads and an E cam you would be better off with a 650 carb.

The goal is to get the car to run 10.0 on radials, with out a power adder and still be streetable. 85 sonic blue coupe with 302 bored and stroked to 364, Ported Twisted Wedge heads and a BXR intake, A9M ECM with a Tweecer, C4 with trans brake, 275/60/15 M/T drag radials, no power adders. |

If you still have the T-5 behind the 351W then leave your combo alone as you will build more than enough torque to wreck the tranny. Tune on it and get it running smooth. I had an 830 cfm carb on a 302 so your 750 will work just fine if its what you have to work with. Change the plugs though as that is cheap and the autolites are much better.
I do agree that a person can get a lot more out of a 351W with different heads, cam, etc. but that all costs money and maybe the whole intent here was to use what was at hand and keep the costs down. If that is the case then suggestions on how to tune the current combo would make more sense. Stuff like cam timing, jetting the carb, etc. Darren
