just a heads-up
DO NOT take your vehicles to econolubentune located @ marbach and 410. I took my stang there to get new suspension put in, a total fluid change, a new fuel filter, and my brakes completely re-done.
I paid them 140 to do a total flush on the tranny, and they didn't even touch it. the fluid was still black when i picked it up, and the gasket around the tranny's oil pan had so much gunk around it, there's no way they took it off. I had a spun rod bearing i didn't know about, as i had only had the car 2 days and the seller put HEAVY oil in it.. they didn't bother to change the oil filter, which they charged me $30 including labor to change, and didn't tell me about the metal shavings in the oil! they also said they would use the brake pads I bought from autozone, which were cheaper than the ones they had in-shop. They "forgot" to use mine, and charged me twice as much for their pads as i paid at autozone. On top of that, they didn't bleed the front brakes. I went back to the shop and spoke to the owner, showed him my reciepts and all- he swears he watched them do all the work and refused a refund. I spent $1700. |

I don't have the tranny anymore. i did take pics of it tho. i have samples of the oil that i got out of my car after i changed it myself, as well as the tranny oil. I also have the OLD sp wires they charged me to replace and didn't. but i can't afford to sue them. =[

Ditto on that. get all the evidence you have and go back over there with a camera crew. Once they have a camera in their face they usually change their tune.

You should know better than to go to a place like that , they are as bad as Sargent Clutch or Ammco . If you need work done on your Mustang , go to a Mustang shop even if its stock stuff . Thats not saying you will get any better results but atleast they "should" know whats going on since they work on those types of cars all the time .

I honestly didn't know any better. couldn't even change my oil at the time.
3 days later, I had to pull the engine and put a new one in on my own, so I took a huge crash course, lol. Now I know enough to do most stuff on my own. |

When I use to work for my uncle in his transmission shop , we helped several people win law suits against lube places after they were told their units were serviced and were not . They would bring their cars in and the trans was completely dry and there was no way that much oil would have leaked out within a week or two .

Are you kidding ? Most of those kinds of people that work in those kinds of places are lucky if they can tie their own shoes . Its an expensive lesson learned , if you want to pursue it legally , filing suit in small claims court is your best chance at getting anything back . There is a $5K limit on your claims .

yeah, the sad part is that when i went back, it was really obvious how uneducated even the owner was. I showed him the wires, and he was like "well, they get dirty pretty quick, that's why they LOOK old, but we replaced them"
trying to tell me 12 year old wires were only 2 days old. |

Quit it

you could file with the Better Business Bureau, although on a smaller shop Im not sure that it would do anything...but its a start for a lawsuit...if they completely ignore that then its a small amount of leverage when it comes down to the arguement.
another suggestion is to take to the guys on here that work on cars...

it's people like that who give indipendent small shops like me a bad name (independent refering to "work on all cars"). i come in and do my best to be completely honest with everyone yet people NEVER trust a shop because of ass holes like this!

True that!! Those places are notorious for charging for work that they don't do. There was a news report a few months back where a TV station had hidden cameras to check out their work or I should say lack of work on cars.
I have NEVER nor will I ever take my car to one of the National chain places for oil, brakes, exhaust, or any other type work. |

those quick lube places are no better than Just Brakes. it's pretty bad when places like that give dealerships a good name. trust me, i know. i can't count the number of people that come in to my dealer and say how much better and more honest we are versus the quickie lube places.
and i would say that there are a lot of reputable independents out there. my brother goes to one and my father used to. this shouldn't be a knock on the independents at all. like VIC said, these are national chains. they could give a shit less about the average customer. they'll make their money. the independents need their clients to be happy in order to make money. word of mouth is the best advertisement if someone is happy. as for your problem, call them out on local TV. if they don't budge still, call some local lawyers and see what you can do. one is bound to take your case and not charge until you've either settled or won. it's called pro-bono. there are consumer advocate lawyers that would love to sink their teeth into this one.
