Get a used 03 Cobra for 22-24k and run 12's out of the box. Problem solved.

I agree w/ RaceRat...dollar for dollar the cobra is the way to go....inital puchase might be more, but when u get bored w/ 12.8's all u need is a few mods to get you in the 11's...my .02

Several reasons i want a GT
1. Parents not willing to pay for Cobra and i don't have $20,000
2. I only want low 12's not 10's!
3. I want a sleeper that can blow a stock cobra or my dad's C5 Corvette away and totally shock the driver!!!!
4. Mainly it's money and for the money i would spend on a stock cobra i can get a GT used with low miles for 14,000-17,000. And then mod it to run low 12's for only a few thousand.
It's just my preferance but mainly it has to do with the amount of $$$ my parent's and I are willing to pay for a stock car. Sorry but u gotta luv a sleeper!!! :redrum:

I love sleepers but don't particularly care for the body styling on the fox body stangs. I also don't like sixers because well... that is too much sleeper. JK LOL

Not to rain on your parade but 17,000 + 3,000 = 20,000 and you don't get the stout bottom end in the GT... that might not hold up to the nitrous you'd have to run to get U into the "12's" even with a midpipe, catback, 3.73's, slicks, and a diablosport tune.

What are you talkin about?! I won't need nitrous to get 12's! I'm going to do a full N/A setup to run mid to low twelves! My parents said that 17,000 was a s high as they could go we're probably gonna stick around 15000 to 16000 range. Plus i'm gonna add 31 spline moser axles and a 31 spline posi to strengthen that rear end.

uhh roush67 knows what he's talkign about when it comes to cars.

Maybe with a P&P on H/I and cams you could get it into the 12's but that would be more than 3 grand too.

Just an observation.

you're gonna have to throw out $$$ on suspension work as well. HP and TQ doesn't matter if you can't lay it down on the ground.

I will throw in my limited expertise. There is no way, you will get a 99+ GT into low 12's N/A for a couple thousand $$ of bolt ons and suspension work. Since you like to plan everything out, (and I am with you on this, because I do alot of research before I spend the dough), what are your mod plans? Maybe, if you list everything you want to do, the peeps on here can help you out.

Look i have several friends with timeslips on 01,02,and an 04 GT with bolt-ons running in the mid-high 12's with less mods than i will do. My list of full mods i will make over the next year -two years are as follows.
3.90's, prochamber, long tube headers, magnaflow catback, Foxlake intake, 75mm TB, VT Stage 1 or 2 cams, VT ported heads, steeda udp's, tri-ax, slicks, 31 spline axles, 31 posi, eventually a max. motorsports suspension kit or just maybe bilstein shocks/struts, corbeau race seats (the c1 i think is the one i'm gonna get for safety and looks)AKA nervous parents JK., custom tune from CCS tuning. If that won't get me mid-low 12's then i'm gonna freak because several of my friend are runnin basic stang mods and gettin high 12's with time slips and all! LMK If this doesn't do low-mid 12's tell me what will without nitrous or turbos, and i really would prefer not to supercharge.

Well, after seeing your list of mods, it's close to my new set up...BUT.....There is no way you will get all of that stuff for the $3,000.00 you were saying you wanted to spend. The intake alone will run you $1,200.00 minimum.

I know that, I was just giving a rough estimate. i will have enough $$$ to buy all those parts so it will be fine. I will do cams and heads probably next summer but the rest i will do whenever i get my stang after summer.

here's the last pass I made in my 03 gt (before I de-modded it).

1.82 60 ft
13.1 @ 103.2

corrected time is 12.76 @ 105.91 (because it was the dead of summer and DA was 2300')

mods:
Long tubes, O/R X pipe, Spintech mufflers, T/A and Pulleys, 4.30 gears (w/31 spline rear), QA1 k member, 90/10 struts w/175 lb coilovers in front, K&N on stock intake, tri-ax shifter, skinnies up front and et streets out back.

Think thats bout it. Race weight was 3160.

This was before the plenum's came out, so with a plenum and TB that would have added a few cheap HP. This was done on "more than done with" et streets. Normally I would pull low 1.7 60 fts so ya gotta keep that in mind too.

So when I look back at it, this was a mid 12 second car if I would have ran it in the winter with all the shit on it. I think with rear control arms and some et drags it would have been there without a problem. But the world may never know.

I wont be going that route with this car, its just much cheaper and easier to go F/I and at the end of the day you'll probably be faster.
