I have been wanting to see an event like this. Some friends and I have put some thought into how to make it work. In the past there has been the Big Dog and Little Pooch shoot out, it was a good idea except they did it on a Friday night, you will not get near as many cars that can show up on a friday night as you will on a saturday. To regularly get a good turn out you need to bring cars in from a larger area. If you do it on a saturday you are more likely to get cars from Dallas and Houston, probably more locals also. I liked the Big Dog and Little Pooch event being on a friday night because it is cooler than the middle of the day during the summer months. If you plan an event for a friday night, you would get a better turn out with street cars and street /strip cars, there are enough around to get a good turn out.
Limiting the number of classes to as few as possible, then only pay the final four cars. The more classes you have the more pay outs you have, making it more costly, harder to pay the pay outs and all of the bills that go with putting on an event. It would be nice to only do heads up, but then making classes that allow as many cars as possible to be competive is difficult. If you only have a few basic rules, a few cars will dominate and you will loose your car count. Then if you go the other way, it will be difficult to enforce the rules and you will take the fun out of the event. Index racing would be simple to run and not loose cars because they are not competitive. I know many people that want to race in something other than bracket racing, but are not competitive in mosts classes and do not have the money to step up. I was a big fan of the Little pooch class before Freddy loosend up the rules. Limiting suspension and tires are two of the simplest ways to control the performance levels of the cars. It also helps to make rules and stick to them, unless there is an obvious problem with a rule. I would like to see an event were the fastest cars are running on true 10.5x28s and then possibly two slower classes one with radials and one class for 26x10.5 or 26x11.5. All runing on stock style rear suspension. Then try to come up with a weight break for non power adder carsf and then put a limit the power adders that can be used. That way you don't have to make power adder classes and non power adder classes. Then come up with a reasonable pay out and stick to it. I have been told many times, "we don't have enough cars to make a field so we are not going to pay full pay out" at events I have raced in previously, then you loose the last few cars that did show up. Making classes that cater to slower cars may also bring in more cars because of cost to build and race the faster cars and the economy, I don't see as many of the faster cars at the big events. With fuel prices being so high I don't plan on going to many events that are out of town myself, I had plans to hit many of the races in Sealy and Houston this spring and summer, I don't know how many I will make with the fuel prices being as high as they are. I have been to and raced in many Fun Ford events and an NMRA event, I have gotten bored with those events, I have not been to one in years. I would go to another NMRA event if they ever come back to Texas. I enjoy racing against F bodies, Vetts and what ever else I can find to race that runs numbers close to my car. I use to enjoy racing against Grand Nationals when I lived in Houston and they were comon. Now days they seemed to have been replaced with imports. I would like to race against more imports that are in the ball park of my car, but the 15 second fart pipe cars that drowned out my car and can't find all of the gears are irritating. Limiting car brand will limit your car count and kill the event, if you can find a way to get more of the cars that show up at the track to compete in an event, instead of just sitting around like they are at a car show would increase the car count in a hurry.

I would love to have something like this once a month would be nice to see how my stang with some mods would stack up with other mildly modded stangs and a good way to see others set-up and learn from others.

I am serious about this, I have talked to many people about this and have found there are a lot of people that want a regular event to run in that that they can run the car they have with out having to build a very expensive race car, that they would have to drive long distances to compete on a regular basis. What did you build your car for, posting pictures of it on web , just running time trials or racing it? I don't know about you, but I love to race and like many can not afford to build a car to compete in an NMRA of NMCA class much less the travel expenses. There are a lot of people that keep talking about this subject, nobody has gone much farther than that. If I had the money I would start a regular event. The idea of getting a few shops or buisness to sponsor a few classes is possibly a good way to get this started. The same type of cars I am talking about, are owned by the same people that are a good percentage of the customers of the local shops. The idea is a good one someone just needs to take the initiative. I know I should not have posted my response on this forum, because it is a waste of time on this forum, but someone else started the talk of a racing series.

This should be a good investment for shops too because it would bring customers to them and keep them coming because once you get that taste and you want more so people will spend more money to get that 1/4 time down.

Exactly, and that gets on my nerves when I get answers like "good luck". It can help your business, but attitudes will only hurt your business.

Well its alot harder to organize an event than what most people think . I would do your home work first and model the event after something that works . Don't just shoot from the hip on it .
I am sure some of the shops in town would be interested in a minor sponsorship role with some big name as the major sponsor . You could do the event twice a year so it does not get old month after month . |

Well, I was hoping to get a dealership to be the main sponsor like Denvers. Yeah, I am going to do a lot of research cause honestly this is bigger than just a car show. Hopefully I can get some stuff started with general info from the track, but still waiting to hear from them. Would be nice to see a LoneStarStangs/UnitedStangs car show

I have worked a lot of big events in the Southeast and
the easiest way is to have headsup classes and the headliners. We ran Outlaw 10.5s,Limited Street and then everything else is index classes.Run a 10,11,12,13,14,15,16 second class and the only thing you have to worry about is the index cars are legal for the et they run. No bitchin about tire size, weight, suspension or anything else.We would have 10,000 spectators on a Saturday night for a 10.5 show at an 1/8 mile facility and it was a good show. You could change the et break around and go 9.50,10.50.11.50 but more than 8 or 9 clases is too many. Take the winners of the headsup classes and have a runoff to crown an Index King. That would be the only bracket racing all night.

Well, to get more people out there, plus not everybody races. If you can get those people as well, then you have a bigger crowd. Be nice to get some different shops and have them bring out there cars. I would like to see Dean's turbo car make a couple passes.
