6 pounds... not 8.. and as was stated above as well, 100 lbs is good for ROUGHLY .1 seconds.... also depends on where the 100 lbs came from

Exactly 100 from the front is different than 100 from the rear...

"100 lbs equals a tenth" is not an exact science but rather a general-rule-of-thumb.

way off rule of thumb

closer to exact would be a consistant bracket car thatadds and removes 100 pounds of ballast and relays the resultant difference in traps and mph.

there are too many major variables to even apply a rulle to it.

initial weight of car, gearing, tire, power band and how fast the car is already

it's just a general guide line man... why do you come on here and bash everything???? this "phrase" is generally accepted, we're not talking about race cars here, so it's not gonna be exact sciences, but rather just a general guideline....

I know its a rule of thumb. What i am saying is it is so far from the truth that it shouldnt be spread at all. It is a pet peeve of mine.

i got my 6 banger down to 2980... or maybe 2890, i forget... but i remember being proud of that. they aren't as heavy i know but it was somewhere around 200+ lbs off stock. i can't remember all what i did to it, but i lost the spoiler, got big and little weld wheels, took off the front sway bar, replaced as many small brackets with velcro or zip ties as i could, and traded my driver power seat assembly for a non power... what else... oh yeah there is a little non vital piece right under the steering column that weighs a few lbs. you could remove the front bumper (the metal part under your bumper cover) but that's at your own risk... if you get in a front collision it'll just crumple your core support right away instead of crumpling the according brackets that hold your front bumper. they make lightweight front bumpers though... look like ladder bars. :-) not too expensive.

and keep your spare! your car is not a race car, and your gf won't like waiting for AAA. oh... or you could just break up with the misses and save ~110lbs right away, and you'll have more money for the stang.
