manual vs. power brakes
So I know different people do different things but I saw on the 50 restoration site conversion kits for going to manual brakes on different year mustangs. I want to know what the comparison is and gains vs. losses are. The 79 I am working on need the brake system redone on it bad. I am wondering if I should convert to manual or leave power . Any ideas?

Stay power IMO alot less pedal effort is need to stop the car much easier on a street car.. Usually the manual conversion is done on race cars.
If you really want to improve the brakes on the 79 best thing would be a five lug swap and the better brakes it brings to the table.

well i Have to replace the master cylinder and brake booster as they are no good. also some one was telling me that while I was at it to change the brake lines too as the 79 had it go threw the car vs. the newer foxes under the cars.

Changing the rubber lines is prolly a good Idea. A ne M?C for it is like 40 from any Orielys autozone whatever I just put one on my 85 awhile back. As for the Booster hit up pick n pull I saw several foxes out there. Maybe take the old one along and if no mustangs are around ck the t birds as it may fit as well (not sure). As for the hard lines I would just flush it all out with some brake fluid and blow um out with some air. The hard lines should be alright as long as they aren't crushed or kinked. I dont believe the hard lines run thru the body I know they are underneath on my 85 although 79 could be different.
If you are interested in them I have a set of good frt calipers and rotors for a four lug fox as well as the lower control arms. Ill make ya a good deal on um if you need um.

I think I am good. thanks a bunch though. I am just trying to fix the car as to be a daily driver for to and from work. dont hand the vert all the time out getting abused. I was going to clean up the 79 some but leave the v6 in it. the car runs good but some wireing needs fixed and the brakes are next to nothing. I saw online that you can get the booster and m/c from auto zone as a toldtal together for like $100. as for the lines. they are good. the only thing thats ugly is they are rusted to all hell. as is the BB and M/C.

You may be able to clean it off, however Id be more concerned in what the fluid color is when it comes out. If it is real brown they may be rusted inside. Hardlines are fairly cheap and all you need to do is remove the old ones (1 at a time) and copy the bends with a tube bender since the replacements will be straight.

Flush it out any way its good insurance. Just let it gravity bleed out of the lines for a while
