    more problems...

OK here we go again.. 02 V6 5spd. ~123000 miles.

Last night on the way home from work the car felt like it wasnt getting enough gas, it would do alright on 1/4 throttle but anything more it would jerk as if it wasnt getting gas. The check engine light came up flashing and then went away after a while. This is all of a sudden and the car hasnt had this problem before. Anyone?

Usually a flashing check engine means a serious misfire, one severe enough to damage the cats. Usually a bad plug/s or coil pack/s that is dead/and or wet/fouled out and causing that affected cylinder to dump unburned fuel into the cats.

Definitely pull the code and see what it says.

It'd definately be a bad idea to drive it to get the code pulled right? And will it still throw a code if the light has gone off?

Drew, I'd definitely love to throw some advice out, but since I've been having a similar problem on my car for I don't know how long, I can't :P

My car has been having a similar problem of jerking sometimes upon acceleration, but then its fine. My never throws a code though. Some other little things go along with that problem too. This was happening to me during the summer, and i replaced the plugs, coil pack, and fuel filter, and that fixed it for a while. Now I'm still confused so I'm going to say your problem is that you are driving a v6! hahah

Sounds like a fuel issue to me. Bad fuel pump or clogged filter.

If you got an auto parts store nearby, take it there, they will pull the codes for free. At least that will give you a good idea where to start.

I'd at least check the plugs and coils first. Run through any large puddles, maybe one of the spark plug bores got water in it causing the coil to short out.

The light has to be on for them to check it for free right? The light has since gone off?

I'll try and check the plugs today when I get out.

They'll check it whether the light is on or off. The codes will be stored.
My sister's 98 just started doing this. Everything I do to it makes it run good for about a week, then it runs rough again. Now it is bucking during low acceleration and dying at stops.
It always throws a misfire code on cyl 1, and sometimes throws another code. This week it is P1151 (too lean to adjust), which is the first time I've seen this code on this car.
I'm ready to pull the intake off and see if I can find a broken gasket or plugged injector.
The thing that keeps me scratching my head is that it seems that no matter what I do, it always runs good for about a week.
Another thing that bugs me is before she asked me to look at it, she put fuel injector cleaner in with a fill up and the car ran horrible until the next fill up. She tried it again with the same effects. I've never heard of this before. I did change the fuel filter after that and when I poured it out into a clean jar it was full of dirt/or rust.
I've replaced plug wires, coil pack, fuel filter, O2 sensors, and Cats (had a broken weld).

The code will still be in ECM memory even though the light is not on, unless you disconnected the battery for any reason, then all codes would be cleared and the ECM would be in relearn mode.

Closest place to us that scans codes is Autozone at Thousand Oaks/Jones-Maltsberger. I don't think there is anywhere closer on your side of 1604.

Autozone will pull codes for free. Most shops charge one hour labor to do a diagnostic.

Thanks Joe I'll let you know when I decide to go

To my understanding they would only pull it for free if the check engine light is on which mine isn't.

I really don't think it's that big a deal, it should make it the short trip. If you want I'll follow though. Cars are weird... my cousin's infiniti had it's engine light on, but when we scanned it, it said no codes found. Crazy cars these days...

If I had to put my life on an answer, I would say coil pack.

I've been through three ford O.E.M. coils, and 2 "screamin' demon" coil packs with that exact same problem. Biggest headache in the world when it starts happening. After sending my 3 old coils to performance distributors they send me one back that has been working for almost a year now.

They've never asked if mine was on or not, always just plugged in and turned the key on and scanned it. The lights don't always stay on anyway, so if they did ask, just tell them it was on when you pulled in the parking lot.
