Moving to SA, need some help!!

My wife and I are moving to SanAntonio in June for sure now. The military finally got my orders straight. I will be stationed at Lackland. My question or questions are:
- What is the going rate for a 3-4 bedroom house in a good area?
- What are the good areas in San Antonio? (I know its a big city, we are looking for a middle class area with some descent people, not the slums or the ghetto)

Can't wait to meet some of the people and cars I read about on this site. Sound like alot of really nice people. Thanks in advance for your responses.

welcome to S.A.
north east seems to be a fast and growing part of town. most people their tend to be your lil' healthier people. houses range from like 170's and up (lotta doctors.)
north west is your middle class. their again a fast growing part of town but not as bad as the north east concerning w/ traffic and all (i live their). you can probably fine a house their starting from like your lower 120's and up, and it wont be no ghetto. but yeah either /or are very nice places.

There are good areas and bad areas all over. We live on the west/ North west side and its mixed.( old neighborhood). It just depends how much you want to spend and where you want to be.

My brother has a 140,000$+ house 5-10 minutes from Lackland in a good area. My house is in the same area and is alot less. So.... If you want to be close to Lackland look west and central and maybe northwest. If you want to be close to car stuff look north and north east.

IMO, rent for at least six months to get a feel of the town. I was at sLackland for three months tdy, and all I ever saw was that area. I thought S.A. was a real toilet. You have to remember, the area outside any military base is going to be pretty shabby.

Allot of growth just up North on 281 outside of loop 1604
but watch out for the traffic.
Rent for a bit to get your feet wet. There are different aspects to
each side of town.
I wouldnt live just outside the base.

good Lord no! stay away from the north central area. traffic is an absolute nightmare and you can't leave your car outside overnight without it getting broken into. it may look nice, but you'll hate it after a month.

Depends on what you want. I would rent for at least 6 mo and look around. 281 corridor SUCKS. as does I10/1604 area as well as the so called Great NW. By sucks I mean traffic wise. Personally I see the So Side as the way to go as far as what is going to improve over the next 5 yrs or so with the Toyota plant coming in that side is going to take off. Anything on the north side between I 35 and 151 will be a traffic nitemare. Me I just picked up a nice little casa just off Wurzbach Pkwy in an Older nice Hood. Anyway good luck and happy hunting. If you need a realtor shoot me a PM and I will giive ya a couple names and Numbers.

I'm military stationed at Lackland and live on the North East side. The drive is only about 30 minutes for me which I actually enjoy. I have alot of friend from work on the north west side wich is closer to the base. The area is not bad but it's a little more congested that where I am.

If either of you have specific questions shoot me a PM and I'll give you my number. I've been stationed here two separate times, once at Randolph and now at Lackland.

Good luck to you on your PCS

What units are you guys going to?
