My 351W Serpentine Belt System Explained.

OK, so heres a few pictures of the serpentine belt system that I just got finished earlier. The motor is a 95' 351W out of an F-150. Im running all the 86' 302 brackets, no aftermarket spacers or adapter brackets. The water pump is a Milodon model 16234, and the belt is a Gator Back 935. First I took the 302 A/C compressor bracket and cut the compressor mounting portion off. I fabricated up some 3/8ths inch spacers to put between the plate and water pump, and a mounting boss for the idler pulley that came off of my 06' Mustang GT when I put the u/d pulleys on it. I also fabbed up an aluminum bracket thats used to secure the back of the power steering pump bracket to the cylinder head for stability. I used the stock 28oz. 351W harmonic balance with the stock 302 crank pulley and it lined up like it would have come from the factory. I have read countless articles and write-ups in books, magazines and on the net that says you must have the $65 FRPP adapter bracket for the 302 power steering brackets to work on a 351W, and that there must be a 3/8ths inch spacer put between the 351W harmonic balance and the 302 crank pulley to get the pulleys to line up right. Well I guess its just not true for everyone doing the 351W swap into a fox using the 302 brackets on the 351W.

The only issue I see is where the ribbed part of the belt runs on the smooth idler pulley above the PS pump . If you plan on racing the car , it might throw the belt off .

You make a good point. I would like to go to a ribbed pulley but I gotta wait until I can get some more funds.
