my car just stopped!!

ok the worst thing ever happened on monday and i think i know what it is. what happened is...i was driving up an onramp to a highway at a slight incline and then all of a sudden my car just turn off....the motor die just freakin dies in the middle of the onramp!!! so i push it to the shoulder and let it rest for a second then try to start it. the motor turns like it wants to start but nothing. all electrical items work and there is gas. i changed the fuel filter about 2000 miles. when i normally try to start my car i can hear a buzz before i turn the key over assuming its the fuel pump turning on. now i hear nothing. anything helps and i need as much as possible.

Well if you're not hearing the buzz... I'd say check fuel pump fuse, relay, and lastly the pump itself. I'm not sure if there is a module for it, but some others on here should chime in and let you know for sure.

The fuel pump has some way to turn it on and off. Open your trunk and there should be a big sticker in there telling you how to try to reset it.

Oh yeah... forgot to mention that, but he didn't mention any impacts or big bumps... so I don't know...

Well from personal experience... I have hit huge potholes... AND jumped a curb hard enough to make my tire bulge in two places... and neither of those tripped the safety switch... makes me sound like a dumbass, but shit happens! I'll admit that! I'm guessing it's hit pump though, just easier to check the small stuff first...

I've had a fuel pump inertia switch in my Ranger trip going over a moderate bump - reset it and never did it again in 10 years - even jumping railroad tracks, etc. Ya just never know...........

is this a stock fuel pump? how many miles you have on it? you might indeed have a fuel pump that crapped out. I doubt a pothole triggered your fuel EMO to activate. Definitely check any fuses and reseat any relays before dropping the tank and replacing the pump. No buzz generally means your pump went out....

There is a red button on the top,if it is out, just push it in,and thats it.....Thats all you have to do to reset the feul pump inertia switch. It should be in your trunk on the drivers side,if i'm not mistaken...

before you do that, make sure there is power on either side of that inertia switch... if there's not 12V, (roughly) then it's NOT your pump... however, if there is power going in and out of it, you need to drop the tank to further test...

some people dont want to pay $100 for a guy to stick a test lamp up to the inertia switch and say it's getting the propper amount of power but not turning on, it's your fuel pump...

check the fuel pump control module i don't know if it's called that way but its a square box located on the left hand side of the trunk right next to the fuel pump switch, my car did the same thing, replaced that and i was back on the road
