Need a job in a Fire Department

Alright guys heres the deal, i have just recently completed the Fire Academy and I am a certified EMT. It is very very hard to find a job in a Fire Dept. though, just ask around. So I am hoping that someone here either knows someone or something to help me out with obtaining a job. I am a completely certified FF/EMT so let me know if you can help or have any advice. Yes the job can be ANYWHERE in Texas. Thanks

I got a 25 year old cousin who has been a firefighter for maybe 4 years and helped his other younger brother who is 23 get a job as well because he knows inside people. Now they are helping another brother who is 24 get a job too. They all went through the ff/EMT certified thing as well. The only thing is that these jobs are in the DFW area. I can ask if they got some information that can hook you up with a job easier than going in without knowing inside people. I will let you know ASAP.

I know the Converse Fire/EMS is usually accepting apps. The pay is average at best with decent benefits. But they have a Emergency Service district that covers a large part of the County in addition to parts of San Antonio. They stay very busy. Might not be a bad place to get your foot in the door and some real life experience under your belt. Good equipment and just built a second station.

Thumbs up Job op.

New Braunfels FD is taking applications. Not a bad FD to work for. Several of our guys have gone there and still work here part-time. We're (Bracken VFD) not hiring right now.

Don't screw around though. NB's app. is very in-depth and thorough, it will take you a while to fill it out correctly. They weed MANY applicants out this way. Starting pay is $38K IIRC.

The TCFP is your friend (and your enemy!) Employment

New Braunfels FD Building new stations, buying lots of new trucks lately... still trying to get their admin squared away, but a pretty solid dept. to work for. MUCH better than just a few years ago!

thanks for all the info guys. and ZeroFactor i would defiantly be interested in some info and get to know anyone i can. i did apply at converse and i kinda have an inside source there so hopefully that will work out. they are going to start calling on the apps next week so we will see. and ya i just filled out my New Braunfles app and turned that in last week as well. very long and they are very strict, i kinda have an inside source there as well, but the bad part is alot of times with the bigger depts. unless you know someone real high up all they can really do is give you advice and try to get your name out there. but anything helps its getting to be a very hard career to get into, alot of people out there wanting to be firefighters. i also put in a app. to live oak but there only taking volunteers right now, but its still a foot in the door. the TCFP website isnt to bad, but i call half of the places and they say there not hiring so kinda weird. ive also got a resume on USAjobs for civil service jobs, but those are even harder to get. anyways any help, including prayers would be much appreciated. and thanks again guys. im gonna fill out the taylor app. and mail it tomorrow.

New Braunfels places 98% of hiring importance on filling out app correctly, physical tesing, passing background/references check and the all important po;ygraph.

I know a fair amount of the command staff and the guys that end up on the hiring board.

yes sir when i went and turned in the application i was actually able to sit down with the lady who sorts through them all and have her look over it with me to make sure that everything was good. very nice lady, everyone i spoke with there was nice, thats another why i would love to get on with New Braunfles, nice people and still smaller, but major growth going on.
