hey,,,im plannin on lowerin my car about 2 inches...and dont know much about what it takes or what its gonna cost... ive got all stock suspension..and word on the street has it that you can "cut" your existing coil springs in order to lower the car.. what all would it take to lower the car 1.75 to 2.00".......

I read all kinds of do not cut your springs drivel from all over.
So I went and cut my springs. Got it lowered exactly where I wanted it to. The ride is really no different than any other I've ridden in with replacement springs. I was expecting alot worse ride than what I got. Worked well for me. My advice is to go with a backup plan. Set aside money for some springs in case you cut and really don't like it. Stiffer springs are going to ride stiffer. Period. Whether they are cut stocks or lowering springs. |

Cutting them will work ok. Lowering springs would be better though. Keep in mind that lowering your car to much can screw up your steering geometry. If you are gonna go for that much drop you probably want to look into getting a bump steer kit also.

2 inches wouldnt mess him up really, i wouldnt think. hell, joestang was slammed like friggin 6 inches or something :pickle:
id say your best bet is to go search several forums for pics and see what car sits the way you like it. PM the guy and ask him what springs he has (hopefully itll be a v6) and then you're good to go. and i would think as long as you dont cut the stock springs TOO short, youll be alright, just be aware that when you cut the spring, you're changing the spring rate and all that. ![]()

I think there is alot of misunderstanding about cutting springs...The easy way to cut springs is with a tourch..but with a tourch you have to get the metal very hot...which changes the properties of the metal and makes them softer (ie ride like shit) Now if you use a cut off wheel you will not really have the same problem...Cutting a spring shorter should not change the spring rate...
If this is something you want to try ....get some FREE ones from a friend who bought new ones...or a junk yard....or post that you need some...fox body will work on the new cars as well... As for tim, why the hell would you go with the bullet setup? just get the ford C springs....There cheaper and you do not need that other crap...

Thats is the small end that coils down...I think? If you cut the large end, the only one you better cut if you want them to sit on the spring perch, you should be ok...But play with it on the FREEBIE springs...

Neither front nor rear is a progressive rate spring. The rear ones have one smaller turn at the lower end just so they can fit on the cups.
We used a cutoff wheel and had no problems at all. About 30 minutes for all four corners and another 20 minutes or so to align it. Actual results may vary The key for any drop is to align it well. Especially toe. Good luck |

Dood, just go to a junkyard and fins some springs off of a 4cyl. fox and swap em. Seen lost of cars do this and it works fine every time. I think i drops it about 1 1/2-2 inches.

It would be much easier to just buy some old 4cyl. springs for like $15 and have them exactly the same length the first time than to mess uo on yours and not have any springs. I plan on doing this to my stang soon and to a friends.

a drop of 1.5"+ on the front will require (if you want your tires to last) a set of caster/camber plates. otherwise your wheels will slant inwards. if you do want to put some 4 cyl fox springs in the front, be prepared to have a bouncier front end... and it'll brake dive like a mofo. it lowered my v6 coupe at least 2", probably more. when i sit down in it it lowers another 1/2". |

so it would be better to buy some 4 cyl fox springs for 15 bones.. where could i find them for that cheap? and will they work for both front and rear? that seems like alot less work too.. cus its just the install....compared to cutting and getting everything just right
