Re: cheap

reason is... you'll need an exhaust shop to make your Y-pipe into an H-pipe, then attach the gt take-offs to that. i went the "gt take-offs" route... the take-offs cost me $99 from stangparts.com and the exhaust shop charged me $120 to make the h-pipe and install the gt exhaust. then, a couple months later i bought some flowmasters for $80 from a guy on a mustang board. then it cost me another $60 to get those welded in. so it cost me a total of $360 for the whole setup. and you might be able to get an exhaust shop to custom make you a dual exhaust with h-pipe, flowmasters, and gt exhaust tips for that much. but that's just from my experience. -jeff

Look at my set up?I paid $40 for the x-pipe(overprice) just get two 45 and cut a hole in the middle and weld up. and $120 for the spintech mufflers and $100 for them to install with exta work. But you can save money and have them make a x or h pipe and put mufflers then dump out the mufflers.

question
if i got a full aftermarket cat-back system would i havee to replace my Y-pipe for it to sound good or just leave it beacuse alot of these AM systems i've been looking at say they bolt on to my
Y-pipe and do you guys think that would sound like crap or it'll be fine like that?what i mean is will i get that deepER(compared to stock) sound from a Y-pipe as i will from replaceing it w/ and XorH pipe and which would it be H or X Last edited by timpryor; 02-28-2004 at 11:36 PM. |

i'm not quite sure how it would sound with a bolt-on setup. but i'd assume that it wouldn't sound the same coming through the Y-pipe as it would the h or x-pipe.
but... the bolt on setup would probably come out to be cheaper. since you could install it yourself. but hey, for the meantime... i'm gonna move this thread to the tech section since we're talking more tech than business. :jeff:

pacesetter makes an h-adapter, for your set up. Its like $100 or so dollars for 99 up for the 94-98 less than Hundred. But the sound from the y-pipe set up isn't so bad, but it keeps your torque set up .But it will be cheaper for you to just have x-h made for your car. Just call around or take your car in and tell them what you want. Your just going to have to spend money.

They are cheap for a reason. I would never put anything MAC on my car, but that is just me. I know alot of people have been happy with their prochamber.
