Car Dont Want To Go Past 3500RPM Need Help?

I Have a 89 coupe with a 347. The car had a engine bay fire a few weeks ago I replaced the fuel rail, injector harness, maf, & the injectors the main harness did not get hurt thank god. Now when I fire up the car the headers on the passenger side are geting red hot & the drivers side is cool as can be. It is running real ruff poping & missing does not want to go over 3000RPM & after it ideals for 30 seconds the car shuts down like I turned the key off. Has anyone seen this before any tech help would be great

Does this car have cats? If so maybe one or more of the right side cats is plugged. What has been replaced, such as electronics and where did you get those parts? You might try disconnecting the right side injectors one by one or possibly two at a time. Have the injectors or ECU been replaced? Neither one likes heat, also when you melt wiring you create shorts between the wires in the harness that were burned, those shorts can damage parts that were not in the fire such as the ECU. Also make sure the O2s are hooked up properly, make sure you do not have the left and right swapped. This should not be a problem, because the ECU is not suppose to use the O2s until it goes into closed loop, which will take longer than 30 seconds to get into when the car is cold.

Some more things to look at, you say the fuel pressure is at 44 psi. Is that with the vacuum line hooked up or disconnected and do you have an adjustable regulator? Your fuel pressure should be around 38 with the vacuum line disconnected and high 20s to mid 30s with the line hoooked up, the more vacuum the lower the fuel pressure will be. So if the car has a stock cam and was in good condition it should pull close to 20 in. of vacuum, that much vacuum cam drop the fuel pressure into the mid to high 20s. Check the vacuum make sure you do not have any vacuum leaks just to be sure. Melted vacuum lines are very common in engine fires. How much of the engine compartment was on fire and where was the fire?

Engine fires are always fun to clean up . I bet you shorted something out or burned up a vaccum line . Just take your time and go over everything very closely .

Only 30# injectors? I would have expected 36# to 42# injectors. I gess you know the vacuum is going to be closer to 8 in. vacuum. Is there a chip on the computer? I would bet you have a problem with the ECU as a result of the engine harness having shorts.

So have you replaced the computer since the fire or tried another one? If you have a noid light, plug it into each of the injector connectors while the car is running. It should flash very quickly, it should not be on continuously or not at all. You can use a test light connected between the two terminals if you do not have a noid light. Some auto parts stores sell noid lights, they are easier to use than trying to rig a test light.

So what does that thing run and what are you running for heads and intake? You don't see 347s running 13:1 cr very often.

The car was set up to street race back in california it has a set gt40x fully ported & the stock intake was cut in half ported like crazy then welded back together & powder coated to look stock. The motor looks rock stock except for the T.B & injectors. Ran the car 1 time on drag radials the car spun real hard in 1-3 gears to a 12.5 going to little river this friday to try it agian on slick this time.

Not bad, I thought the car was near stock, looking at the picture. You should get some low 12s out of it. So what was the mph.
