Need some basic car help.......
Ok,
First off.....my fault. My Mustang isn't my DD, but this is my fault. I didn't start the car consistently, and it sat apparently 1 day too long. I jump the car: it starts, it runs, it drives. The second, I stop the car.......dead....click click click like a machine gun. The interior dims even when turning("Staging"?) the key, but without turning it over. At first this seemed like an alternator problem seeing as how the car starts(not the starter) and the car runs(I thought my battery was good since it started). So I figured that the alternator wasn't charging the battery, but could it be a bad battery? Can you jump a bad battery it run fine...then it dies on restart. Now after thinking about it, it seems like if it were the Alternator that the car would run then die within a few minutes later(because the alternator isn't charging the battery). I'm going to replace the stock battery(I have a spare) in the morning...I just wanted to make sure I'm on the right track. |

Thats a good way to burn up a voltage reulator or your alternator....Use a DVOM to check voltage at the battery with the engine running and with it off so you can actually see what is going on.

It was the battery...I didn't bother with the water and all that crap. New battery.....cranked up immediately...didn't even need a jump.
Now....I have to Dremmel or mod the crate that holds the battery....the battery seems to be 1-2 inches bigger than the tray. Anyone know what I talking about or have a better idea? |

I would say that if the batt is bigger than the tray, you got the wrong group battery. I am using a parts store batt and it fits fine, maybe even a little smaller than the tray.
