no fuel...doesnt make sense?
I have a 87 Hatch 5.0 HO 5spd.
Alright brace yourself for a long story. I recently lost fuel and there is no reason or explanation why. Ill start from the beginning. i drove my car to school in the morning last week, left school went and picked up a bunch of parts for the car, drove home and started swapping parts out. All i had swapped out was my steering wheel, seats, headlight switch, and i put a instrument cluster off a 92 LX 4 cyl in. I installed these parts, went to start the car, and all it did was crank, but never turned over. So i spray some starting fluid in and it turns over, i try to give it throttle, but it just crapped out like i wasn't even touching the throttle. So i start testing everything for fuel. I changed my fuel pump relay, and the pigtail it plugs into, i changed the fuel filter, fuel pump, and still nothing. So i put a test light on the relay, and it had power going in, but only when i turned the ignition on, and yet it had no power going out of the relay to the pump. Also when i turned the ignition on, the relay would click, and when i held it in my hand, i could feel it popping. So i put direct power to my fuel pump to make sure it was not bad as well, but it turn on no problem with direct power. I tried tracing the wires, but none of the wire color codes are matching up, so it is nearly a complete lost cause trying to trace them. So here is exactly where im at right now. I can get power into the relay, but not out i put my old instrument cluster back in just because that is really the only major electrical thing i messed with, and i have checked the power to my inertia switch and that is fine, power to my injectors that is fine, no power to fuel pump though. Does anyone have any ideas, i have spent at least 3-6 hrs a day since last friday tracing wires trying to make sense of all this, and cannot figure out anything. Please help me. Sorry if this is very confusing to read, but this is how lost i am. Thanks Also it seems that i have no grounds anywhere in my engine compartment, i can put a test light directly onto my ground strap from the block to the firewall and get no ground. Even when i test from where the negative battery cable connects to my fender i have no ground. Thanks for any help. |

sounds like you bumped your inertia switch. im not sure where yours is at, but all you need to do is push the button to reset it. google it, and good luck.

if the relay is clicking has power to it and none is comign out you got either a bad relay .. or a faulty wire in the plug of the relay end of story
if you have power to it and it clicks then the computer is trying to run the pump so if nothing comes out then 1 the relay is not making the conection inside it or 2 the 12 v input or the pump- out put conector in the relays plug is messed up and allowing the pump wqire to conect to 12v

if it wasnt the inertia switch, id agree with ANR. swap out the relay. (i believe its under the driver seat, if memory serves correct)

I am wondering iof you possibly pinched a wire or something when you installed the seats. If I am not mistaken the early foxes have the relay under the driver seat.I would check there........

thanks guys i really appreciate the help. i ended up pulling all my carpet up, and sure enough a wire had been pinched by the seat. now of course the carpet is all loose and has air gaps, but hey my baby runs again so i cant complain. thanks again guys thats why i like this group of people. i guess the good that came out of this is i installed a high volume pump, and changed the filter which desperately needed it haha
