No Tolerance Policy By Galveston Police This Summer

Got this from the News 2 Houston website this morning. They were arresting people at the ferry for every little thing.

Quote:
Galveston Police Arrest 50 People In Line For Ferry
Captain: 'We Have Zero Tolerance On All Violations'

POSTED: 7:58 am CDT May 31, 2005

GALVESTON, Texas -- Police arrested 50 beachgoers Memorial Day weekend as they waited to board the ferry from Galveston to the Bolivar Peninsula.

Those arrested at the ferry landing face a variety of charges: cutting in line of ferry traffic, expired inspection or registration stickers, failure to wear seat belts and possession of alcohol by a minor.

"We have a zero tolerance on all violations," said Galveston police Capt. Phillip Morris.

A mobile jail held about 20 people at a time near the ferry's loading area. Those who could pay a cash bond were released. Others were taken to the Galveston City Jail.

Police will probably continue the crackdown each weekend throughout the summer.

"We're taking a lot of vehicles off the road and drivers off the road that don't need to be on the road," he said. "From our standpoint, that protects the citizens of Galveston and the visitors that are here to enjoy themselves."

Yeah they told us that quite a few months ago when we were hanging out down on the hill...WE werent racing...but other people were...and the cops followed us to McDonalds. They proceeded to look at all of our DL's and told us to get the hell out of there after explaining that the zero tolerance would soon be in effect....

all of those violations are 100% preventable... but arresting them over the seatbelt is over the top. fly right y'all.

the cutting in line is pretty dumb, but i wouldn't mind it going into effect in some form everywhere, like trucks or cars that cut along shoulders in traffic. :mick:

I guess my "no front license plate" car and driver is staying away from Galveston this summer. Some of the stuff is way over the top.

All this does sound like a bit too much but I guess if you're driving safe and legally then you have nothing to worry about. :jeff: Just stay safe and obey all traffic rules as much as possible. :mick:

Well there just going to end up running everyone out of Galveston, and that cant be good for buisness. Most people go to relax and have a good time. Thats just going to kill that. I guess there going to look for every possible reason to pull you over. Well I guess no more drinking and driving in Galveston. :mick:
