Odometer not working

Have a 97 V6.
Both the main odometer and the trip odometer have stopped working.
Everything else on the instrument cluster works including the speedometer.

When I noticed it, I reset the trip odometer and it worked for 0.5 of a mile. Then reset it again and it went for another 0.5 of a mile. On the third reset it stopped completely.

97s are not digital. As in 99+

Any sugestions.... If it is a proplem (gear) in the instrument cluster can it be repaired?

More likely than not if your speedo is still working then the gear that turns the odomoter is messed up. It is located on the back of the instrument cluster right behind the odomoter. It would be easaier to just find another cluster on ebay or something than trying to fix it even tho it can be done.

Same here

Same thing happenned to me 97 mustang GT, I took out the instrument panel, slapped it, smacked it, sprayed some WD-40 in the gears of the odometer and like you said it went for a half mile then stopped again.

I'm planning just to replace the panel and sell it, or maybe just sell it. It's a good car other than that.

Plus I just got an 03 Cobra, so I need some funds.
