offset steering rack bushings

Don't know much about them - are they really necessary on lowered stangs? A friend was telling me they some how correct the bump steer??!! IDK - I have Eibach Pro Kit springs installed on my 99 and I don't have these installed. Are they designed to prevent premature tire wear or something? I don't have any premature wear on my front wheels - LMK

I have always been told if you go 1.25 inches or lower you should use them.

I have them on mine, they help out, but they do no 100% correct it. The true way to go is the actual bumpsteer kit.

I got them installed on mine and I have Eibach sportlines which have just a lil' more drop then your pro kit. I'm still considering doing the bumpsteer kit like 96greengt mentioned though. I think the bushings help most with rack wear because it helps fix change in stock angles of the tie rods or w/e they call them on the rack. I got them installed with brand new tires, and they don't help with tire wear... a proper alignment does!

SAME SITUATION

Not to steal your thunder but this question may help too. I have the same springs and am going to get some offset bushings. DOES ANYONE have any opinions (preferably from experience) about whether to use aluminum or urethane bushings on a stock k-member (02 GT). Which brand is good?

Thanks.

I've got energy suspension offset bushings on my 02 GT that I bought from jegs. They were $20 at most, don't remember exactly. If it's a daily driver, I'd go with those.

$20 bux for the offset stuff? Isnt a bumpersteer kit only like $150?

Is there any reason to have both, or would the bumpersteer kit do it all?

The bumpsteer kit is the way to go hands down, you won't have to worry then for the rack bushings. The rubber bushings (urethane) are more prone to a little give/flex, the aluminum have NO flex at all, very responsive.

With a lowered car, the bumpsteer kit, lower ball joints will give it with the correct geometry and awesome steering response.

I put some in and they do help IMO

OK, so I ordered some steeda aluminum offsets and put them in. It was a PITA but worth it. Although not 100%, I do feel a difference....now I don't have to fight the wheel to keep it on the road. Still may do bumpsteer later but I think it was worth it.
