    Oil Pan

Lifting up the car to put my exhaust on. Started to lift the front on the crossmember when the jack slipped and hit the oil pan. I immediately lowered the jack and looked for any damage. Really didnt see much damage. So, I lifted the car and continued to work on the exhaust. Removed old exhaust and replaced with new exhaust. Excited about the exhaust I started it up to hear it.

Well, I hear a loud knocking or tapping coming form the front of the car. I'm thinking the oil pan dented enough to hit the crank as it is turning.

Question- Any ideas on how to pull the dent back out without taking the oil pan off? Or should I just remove the pan and pound it out?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

remove teh pan for sure to inspect everything.
I would just get another stocker if it was me, but depending on te dent you could have damaged teh pickup tube.

The dent is in the shallow part of the pan. Up by the Harmonic Balancer. '96 GT.

The same thing happened to a car i was working on when the ebrake let go during jacking it up. Come to find out there was a recall on the ebrake. Long story short, the damage was minimal and the tapping was from the "fins" in the oil pan touching the crankshaft. I guess these are some form of scraper or something? Regardless, we pulled the dent out with a weld-on stud nail gun and no issue beyond that. Good luck with the repair.
