you dont have to completely remove the k member but it is easier imo.... a lot of people just drop the rack, and weasel the old one out and the new one in.. but i dont like to do that 'cause you can't really clean the surfaces.

Did you use the one piece rubber gasket? If you did, that is most likely all or part of your problem. The one piece gasket is for '91 and later car and will cause a leak in the rear on earlier cars. I have a way of getting the pan out without dropping the K member. I have found that it is best to remove the pan, so you can properly clean the pan and block and let the block dry over night before installing the new gasket.

Ford changed the oil pan design in late '90 or '91, if you can get your hand on both style pans and look at the corners where the pan goes under the crank in the rear, the pans are shaped differently. I used to try to use the rubber one piece gasket on the earlier cars many years ago and they always leaked, so I would have to redo them. Recently I have bought two rubber one piece gaskets and used them one the earlier pans, because they were listed as being correct for that year, both leaked in the rear I had to go back and replace both. The earlier cars use the four piece cork gasket with rubber end seals. To replace a pan gasket is about $300 labor plus parts, which consists of pan gasket, oil, oil filter and a can a brake parts cleaner. The parts should be $50 or less.

You should be able to get it out by just lifting the engine. Undo the mtr mts and use a hoist to lift it up. Then drop the pan and snake it out from the rear.
