Oil Problem Myth or Fact?

Hey guys, just got my 40th anniversary edition GT, only 25k miles on it, not a single scratch inside or out and she's INCREDIBLY fun, very impressed. Anyhow, I plan to drift her, she slides out nicely, no TCS installed either, heh, but when I brought her by my mechanic to show off, he mentioned that he's heard these engines have a problem with getting enough oil in the turns, he said if I took it to a drift event I'd seize the engine b/c the oil would slide around and it wouldn't get where it needs to go, is this true, are they that sensitive? I've never heard of this before. Thanks for any info you can offer.

hey man! thought i saw you on oconnor today

this can be a problem on ANY engine... i dont think its too big of prob on these- i throw my GT into high G turns at the track all the time, and its never starved for oil. however, one can never be too careful..

good news, its an easy fix! just install a baffle in the oil pan (AKA windage tray)

Yup. Any motor without a baffled sump oil pan can starve the oil pump for oil on a hard corner, straight line acceleration, or stopping hard.

i wouldn't say that it is a real easy fix, either have to drop the k-member or yank the motor.

I don't think it is a huge problem! I am going to autocross the $hit out of my car and I will join you at all the drift events just let me know where and when. I am using Mobile 1 Synthetic and I am leaving it at that.

Well the true test will be this coming, the first for my car, heh.
December 4th here in San Antonio at the freeman colliseum/SBC Center parking lot.
The advice so far has been to put an extra quart of oil in for the event, then drain it out when we leave.
Good idea or bad idea?

its not really about having enough oil, it's keaping the oil under the sump. honestly, i wouldn't drift my car with out a baffled oil pan.
