OOPS!

Are Brown Widow spiders common in Texas? I found 2 black widow and 1 brown widow spider in my yard and garage today.

I read that Brown Widows are not resident spiders in teaxs? So I am wondering if I brought it here in my stuff from Florida? If I did, sorry guys I have now infected texas with the Brown Widow.

I am 90% sure it was a brown Widow. Unless there is a spider here that mimics the look of a brown widow.

Eh?

Juvenile black widows are brown. They turn black when they have fully matured. Don't worry, you didn't bring anything new to town.

Any chance it was a Brown Recluse? Click Here for more info. <--- From this website

Quote:
Other widow species found in Texas are the western black widow, L. hesperus; the northern black widow, L. variolus; and probably the brown widow, L. geometricus.

I put money on it being a brown recluse, but yes brown widows can be found in parts of Texas.

I get Brown Recluses in my house all the time... mainly in the utility room.... they are freaking fast!!!!

They are pretty shy though... the minute they see me they disappear.

Size isn't as much a relation to age as color. I've seen some gigantic juveniles, and some tiny mature black widows. I'd bet it was just a juvenile black widow, but either way, I hate the things.

Ya ll are so funny. I myself hate spiders there to quiet and you never know where there at, not like a snake who at least is much bigger and has a rattle(Texas Snake). Brown Recluse are supposedly the more aggressive spider if provoked and sometimes even when not provoked they will jump on you and bite, Black Widow the less aggressive will bite if touched or provoked. My grandmothers friend got bitten in her garden by a black widow and was dead within hours. Be careful there both common in Texas.

A scorpion crawled into my jeans once, while I was wearing them. Made it all the way to my knee before I caught it. Somehow, I didn't get stung.

I'm not a big fan of squishing black widows. They're usually buried deep in their webs, which conveniently burn very well.
