Opinions Wanted

I have an 87 Hatchback GT with alum heads, cam, headers, 3.77 gears, etc. I've run at SAR twice and best was 14.1 at 99.6mph. I think the car will do better once I learn to launch it. I want to run brackets and think an automatic would be more consistent. Would I be better off to swap my 5 speed for an automatic or look for a car with an automatic.

if you want the car for strictly track, i would go with the automatic. if you like the feel of the 5sp, and think u would have any regrets swapping it, then dont do it. sometimes i wish i had a 6sp. but at the track, my car is VERY consistant..........with traction.

Just practice more with the 5 speed.

Would it be worth it to you to pay all that money for a swap just to go to the track? I honestly wouldn't think so.

when i have slicks on my car its just as consistant as any auto car i've ever owned. dont switch, just beef up the rear and put some good tires on it.

Looks like I should stay with the 5 speed

Appreciate the opinions. Guess I'll have to actually learn to drive better. I'm running Nitto drag radials on the back and best 60' time was 2.07. I've tried between 20-16 lbs on the Nittos and launching around 2000 rpm. Next time I go out, I'll post on this board and I'd be glad for the help from more experienced folks.
