Ordered the magnaflow cat-back

Well, just placed my order for a magnaflow cat-back. I will definitely need help getting this thing on. Might try for next weekend (18th-19th) if it comes quickly. Hell, I think it is just coming from Houston, so this weekend may even be a possibility. Nighthawk has mentioned that getting the old pipes off without cutting them can be done with just jack stands. Can anyone elaborate? Presumably I would jack up the rear of the chassis, leaving the tires touching pavement, to let the rear axle drop as fas as possible. Would I have to unclip anything (brake lines, etc) to get enough of a drop? Any help would be appreciated and repaid in the premium malt beverage of your choice (or soda if you are under 21 ).

John (JMG), what is the deal with the base lift? Did ya'll do it at Randolph? A friend has a truck so I could cart everything over there.

Austin, what is the going rate for a GT cat-back for the V6 crowd?

Yea, we used the Randolph hobby shop and their lift. It was not bad at all. They have all the tools. If you want I will help and I am sure DCM(chuck) will help too. We could have it done in no time. Only because we took mine off last weekend. Let us know.

Jason,
I could give you a hand. Let me know when you want to do it. The hobby shop is awesome and a lift makes it so much easier. Well worth the 3 bucks and hour. The air tools they have there make stuff alot quiker also.

The only way i know of to get the catback off without cutting them that i know of is to drop the whole rearend. I'd say just get a sawzall (JMG has one) and make one clean cut on each side. It is fairly inexpensive to get that welded on at an exhaust shop.

Chuck

I just installed my catback system with some help from others about 3 weeks ago, it was the pro chamber and magnapack catback system. We had to cut the stock catback up to get it off over the rear axle.

I will help for Beer :jeff:

all we had to do to get the stock one out is unbolt the rear shocks...we didn't have to drop the rear

A decent conditioned stock cat back will get you between 75 and 90$.

Once it's off I'll help you get it sold.

Don't ebay it because you probably won't get as much. Two acquantances want a GT cat back on V6power right now in fact.

How much did your magnaflow cat back cost you? I don't have the money (just got towed ) but I sure as hell would like one (2.5", same as what you have).

I originally bought it from the mustangexhaust.com site (nino sports, I believe). They are in Texas, so with tax it was just under $400. But they wanted a written note allowing it to be left at my apartment complex office. F that, so I cancelled the order and have placed one with the stangnet.com partshopper service for $350 shipped.

If I do cut the pipes, how will that drop the sale price? I understand that you can clamp them back together or re-weld them if the cut is properly placed.

You can clamp them or reweld them. That is how most aftermarket cat-backs come anyway. It will also make it easier for whoever buys them to get them on.
