P.I. head swap on 98 Roush

I got a question. I got some P.I. heads for my 98 Roush and I'm trying to decide whether I should do the swap or just sell them. I already have a vortech with intercooler. BBK Long tubes, 42 pd injectors, MSD ignition, 90mm maf, K&N cold air intake, 3.73 gears. I still have the stock gt block though. Should I just leave well enough alone or go for it. I'm afraid I might over do it and cause more problems than I'm ready for. What do ya'll think?

right now your wasting the money you spent on a blower without the pi swap. why sit at barely over 300RWHP when u could be close to 400?

the pi swap will be amazing with your blower.

you should be able to make 400 rwhp with the stock 8 psi pulley. BUT you will have to have it tuned immediately after the swap due to compression increase.

its a must have mod in your case

The heads came off my friends 01 gt. He got some stage 2 ported heads and gave me the old ones. There's a lot of carbon burn on them so I figured I could just get them rebuilt.

Doing head work on mod motors is expensive... but being that they are ported already... and in good shape, flow well, I'd look into blower cams, springs, and a retune for sure.

jody, they arent ported.

you can clean off the carbon yoruself.

You can get some blower cams and springs for around 800-900, but I would only spend that if you wanted to build the motor soon. Your internals cant safely support the extra power you will make with a pi swapped blown application AND cams. So it would really be a waste of cash unless you build the shortblock very soon.

My bad, I read that wrong... my mistake...

but the extra compression from the PI swap would put more stress on the rotating assembly. If you are gonna keep it boosted, may as well forge the bottom end. Used parts can be found for low prices if you shop around and are patient.

Thanks for the advice. What size cam do you think would be right for my application? I already have a vortech with intercooler. BBK Long tubes, O/R x-pipe, 42 pd injectors, MSD ignition, 90mm maf, K&N cold air intake, 3.73 gears, and since I spoke to ya'll last I bought The trick flow intake manifold for my p.i. heads.

stock PI cams, spend the money on a tune and your built shortblock savings fund and/or do cams at once when you do a forged shortblock. You wont have any trouble pumping out 500 HP with the setup when its said and done.

That trick flow intake is BIG. we put it on an n/a 4.6 and it suck up alot of torque but really shifted the curve as expected.

Your car is going to pull like a raped ape until you shut it down at 6k or so.

You will really need a cobra crank and some good internals to take advantage of the amazing gains that intake will give you up top.

That is freakin awesome. So forged pistons, steel rods and cobra crank. Okay cams come after I rebuild the bottom end. When that time comes what do you suggest?

Not steel rods, forged rods... I suggest either Manley or Scat rods, don't skimp on the rings either, much less machine work for the block.

As far as cams go.... Davis will say get your heads to match the cams, but a custom grind may suit you better then off the shelf blower cams.

I dumped a butt load of money in my engine for 300+ n/a hp as of now.

Okay, forged rods, Manley or Scat, got it. I-beam or H-beam? I-beam is lighter and H-beam is stronger right? As far as pistons go what would be better, flat top or dished? Whats the difference? I think I have flat top in my mustang. Is that why compression raises so much with P.I. heads?
