thinking of painting my brake calipers red

Is there a good how-to online?
Has anybody done this? How does it look?

What exactly will i need - will my stock jack work?

Do a search on LSS. It has been posted a few times before.

That G2 paint setup is great. I used ti on my last vehicle. Once it dries it'll stand up to anything.

That "kit" @ $35 is not really required. Just buy a spray can of HI-temp (500 degrees) of the color you want for ~$5. Mask off around the calipers. I also put a plastic grocery bag over the disk. When you get done spraying, rotate the disk to wipe off any paint from the disk that got through.

Im gonna buy a set of 3 ton stands (4 for $23) - they are cheap enough and i can rotate my tires -

Do i need to take the calipers off to spray paint them? Or can i just cover everything up? I like 5 bucks compared to 35 bucks!

Thanks
-James232v6

PS-would i need to buy gloss if i bought the spray paint from autozone?

It will be a lot neater looking job to take the calipers off. Takes 5 minutes at the most and the results will be better. Make sure to clean all of the rust and debris off of them and wipe down with a thinner before painting them.

There is no need to remove the calipers...Just get some masking tape and old newspaper. If you do take them off...don't remove the brake lines. If you do, you will have to bleed the brakes.

I think PepBoys has a better selection of spray paints

Wal Mart

High Temp engine block paint.

I got everything I need if I could just motivate myself enough to try to get some jack stands under my car....

Use the money you saved by not getting the kit and invest it in a cheap floor jack.

Cheers!

Don't do it ghetto. It looks really tacky when they're just sprayed and the back of the brake pad is Red also. Take the time and do it right. Pull the caliper off of the spindle, remove the pads, and leave the brake line connected but cover it with some masking tape. Start with 2 thin coats, then 2 thick coats.
