I already told you that if you plan on keeping the stock cam , you need to retard it 4 degrees and add some 1.72 roller rockers to the mix . It will run decent with some ported Gt40p's , the cam setup the way I suggested and a intake matched to the head size . I would also add some 1 5/8 long tubes and a 2.5" matching X pipe .

I will second that
stock cam retarded 4 degrees 1.7s gt40ps if you are on a budget AFR 165s if you can sing it. if you find a steal on used trick flows you could do those. It will be a tad soft on the lower end.

I would agree with the GT40Ps and a GT40/Cobra intake try to skip the explorer intake it will work but is smaller. The lower on both intakes can be ported but only the upper on the Cobra. There use to be a few people around that made some respectable improvements by porting the upper and lower. Retarding the cam and adding the 1.7s with a good port job on a set of GT40Ps and properly tuned, a set of 3.73s or 4.10s and some desent suspension with a set of ET streets should get you into the 12s the more you work on perfecting the combination and improve your driving low 12s and even high 11s are possible. With out some kind of tuning device stick with a stock cam. The speed density systems use vacuum to determine load and will run rich if you install a cam that lowers the vacuum. Something to also look into is a Tweecer. The Tweecer is basicaly a chip that can be reflashed as many times as you like and will hold 5 up to 5 differnet tunes, one of them being stock. You can data log with it which makes tuning much easier, you buy the chip and then down load the softwhare free. There is a Tweecer forum and the ECC tuner forum that you can learn a lot about tuning on those two forums. If you get a Tweecer you can tune the car with any cam, head, intake,TB and short block combo without converting to MAF. If you get into tuning the stock EFI computers you will learn how much room for improvement there is with the stock calibration in the factory computers. There is so much you can do with a factory computer that the factory did not do. Like I said earlier with the parts availible today. You should be able to get the car into at least high 12s, with some work you should get at least some mid 12s. You could probly get some well into the 12s with a set of drag radials. Good luck.

just dont be surprised to run a 13.5 at 104 your first time out. Because it WILL happen. It takes practice.

Here is a good read on pro comp heads < the aluminum cheapo ebay heads > procomp head test This is on the chevy ones but the ford heads are just as bad read this thread on tms Login Those heads are absolulte JUNK .. i have a customer who put TWO sets of the 190 cc one and both had bent valves right out the box ... then he got his third set a set of the 205 cc heads wich passed a vacume test finaly. The car put down 240 rwhp with the 205 head a trick flow street heat intake and a tirck flow stage two cam anda ll the supporting mods .. and was lazy as hell down low with crap torque out put. Those heads flow no where near what they claim either they are prety much junk UNLESS you buy them bare and have a reputable machine shop port them and then assemble them but by that time your gona have 1200 bucks into them so just buy a name brand head. A ported stock heads can work well i have a set of e-7 that have been exhaust ported and bowl blended and on a stock short block with a e-303 cam they made 285 + rwhp and made over 40 foot pounds more torque then the above motor with the pro comps. and you can find heads like that cheap used im selling that set for 500 with a set of cobra 1.7 roller rockers.

Dean , its really hit and miss with the Pro Comp stuff . The set I have on my 393W were cnc'd and flowed over 300 @ .600 on Pete's bench . I also know of several others that have flowed them as cast heads and they flow in the neighborhood of 250-280 depending on the size of the finished runner and valve size. These flow numbers were not on Pete's bench but on others across the country . These are not the same castings as Patriot is using although I have heard alot of bad stuff concerning the finished product from Patriot on their "Freedom series" cylinder heads.
I cannot mention anything on the Chevy heads because I have not personally seen them . |
